HR & Compensation Analyst transitioning deeper into Data Analytics | Excel, SQL, Power BI & Python | Sharing my journey, projects & beginner-friendly lessons
Hi, I’m Jeremiah 👋 A Statistics grad and HR C&B Analyst building deeper in Data Analytics with Excel, SQL, Power BI & Python.
I’ll be sharing my journey, projects, lessons and practical insights from HR, payroll and business data. Let’s connect 🤝

PivotTables are becoming one of my favorite Excel features.
Today I turned raw sales data into a summary report by grouping, filtering and comparing product performance-all without writing a formula.
I can see why they're essential for data analysts.

3 Excel cleaning tricks I practiced today:
TRIM removes extra spaces.
PROPER standardizes names.
Flash Fill (Ctrl+E) speeds up repetitive tasks.
Every clean dataset starts with good data cleaning. Practicing with a messy HR dataset.

@SharonAnalytics I get this. Trying to build in data while handling other responsibilities can be exhausting, but documenting the journey and staying consistent will compound over time. Rooting for you 🙌
@SharonAnalytics This is a solid first project 👏 building a dashboard from a messy dataset is a great way to learn because it forces you to clean, structure and actually interpret the data. Curious - what was the most challenging part for you, the cleaning, formulas or dashboard design?
@Alex_TheAnalyst This really hits home. I’m currently rebuilding my data analytics foundation from an HR/Comp & Benefits background, and posts like this are a good reminder that mastering Excel, SQL, Power BI and core problem-solving still matters even with all the AI buzz around.
This week I worked through Power Query, XLOOKUP, and aggregation formulas in Excel.
Small progress, but I’m focused on building strong foundations before moving deeper into SQL, Power BI, and Python.

@Microsoft365 Absolutely 🙌 XLOOKUP has made lookups much cleaner for me.
I’m currently documenting my Excel learning journey as I build toward stronger data analytics skills in Excel, SQL, and Power BI.
Why I switched to XLOOKUP in Excel:
It’s cleaner, easier to read, and more flexible than VLOOKUP. No more counting column numbers manually, and I can return a custom “Not Found” message directly in the formula. Small change, better workflow.

If you work with targets, commissions, payroll, or KPI summaries, learn SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, and IFS early.
They save time and make reports much easier to build.
I’m currently practicing them through a simple commission calculator. #Excel#DataAnalytics
If you clean the same kind of file every week, use Power Query instead of repeating the steps manually. Import once, clean once, then just refresh when new data comes in.
Saves time and reduces errors.

Day 1 of learning in public
Today I’m setting up the foundation for my data analytics journey- cleaning up my profiles, organizing GitHub, and getting ready to build consistently with Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python. Small steps, but important ones.
