18–20% of military-aged males have already been mobilized in sample Ukrainian villages, of which 3–4% are irrecoverable losses. This is in line with estimates at the country level. I created a model and will publish the details shortly.

Notably, the mobilization ratio of eligible cohorts, once medically and professionally excluded people are factored in, is already closer to 40%.

This may help explain why enforced mobilization in the streets is on the rise, as well as the complaints it generates.

To compare, about 5% of Russia’s military aged male population has enlisted or been mobilized.

➡️ A couple of thoughts after the drone raid on the Moscow refinery :
1️⃣ This will have no effect on Russian diesel exports - they were effectively at zero already - but may put off the day when they restart and bring relief to record-high international crack spreads.
2️⃣ Russian drone defenses have improved over the last year (see our Substack 👇), as raid sizes have had to increase by 5-7x over the last year to still have an effect. The eternal race between spear and shield goes on.

It benefits from a more robust logistical situation, is located on the ridge just above the city, across the defensive line, and threatens several logistical lines into Kramatorsk.
