I think the reason you canโt hate yourself into changing your life is because change is the most self-loving thing you can ask of yourself. You are quite literally demanding better for/from yourself, in what world do you think self-loathing and self-punishment can sustain that?
Non-autistic people are yelling about how distressing it is to witness an autistic person having a public meltdown without taking a single moment to consider how distressing it is to be an autistic person who is having a public meltdown.
Sending reporters to do heatwave stories to camera at the beach is a such a lazy bit of consent manufacturing. 35C does not equal the beach. Do the report on a building site where people are on the verge of passing out. Do it from a hospital ward.
Someone I know is struggling at work due to health reasons, so they asked their manager for reasonable adjustments and the manager said โsorry, I canโt give you special treatment without a formal diagnosis note from your doctorโ, so they got one, then the manager saidโฆ
The whole "erm it's not ableist to expect you to be able to act professional in a workplace" argument about autistic meltdowns thing is almost comedic because:
1) meltdowns are involuntary
2) you do not want to know my opinion on workplace culture and "professionalism" as a whole

another important and correct answer is to point out that bad people, etc. still exist outside prison under the carceral system. neither approach can eliminate the harm completely, the goal is to minimize the harm they cause
The correct answer to "what about bad people? what about rapists?" as a police and prison abolitionist is: well, we won't be giving a bunch of them badges and uniforms and guns and absolute authority over buildings full of potential victims, which seems like significant progress.
