@Morphologis@OlliHull Just deeply cynical, deeply corporate marketing department style content imo. It felt very gross watching it, more than any video they've made in a long time. Jared lies to us a lot but it at least feels off the cuff and impulsive, not polished and produced.
@Morphologis@OlliHull It might cover what was being worked on, but it's also an obvious post-facto narrative manufactured and imposed on the process. Like the "x days till 4.10" stuff feels very weird when I think we all know the target release date was a few weeks ago.
@Morphologis@OlliHull It also, frankly, feels oppressively like a TLC show. The framing, the shots, the stilted interactions, it all feels very crafted. It's very bad, imo.
@Morphologis@OlliHull To me this doesn't really feel like the right direction at all. I wanna see more transparency about what's being actively worked on, not retrospectives of stuff that just shipped. This is just a corporatized director's commentary spin on what ISC has already become: patch reports
@starjumporg I can't help but feel like it's gotten a bit bloated and shapeless in production, like so many concepts before. It doesn't really carry the same nautical vibe it had when the lower sections were thinner.
@starjumporg I do think the GTA stuff is a little insincere tbh. If that were the only factor, it'd be Q1. Game's likely just not done, and GTA is an acceptable smokescreen for that.
@_zocco@OlliHull Obv it's not all bots and a lot of people sincerely like the content but it's very sus just how many generic "omg this is so good" comments went up within 1-2 minutes of the video dropping, esp with it dropping at midnight CST/6-7am in Europe.
@_zocco@OlliHull tbf that deluge has a lot of bot accounts. watched the video like 5m after it posted and there were tons of comments already about how amazing it is despite it not having been up long enough for anyone to have watched it in full lol.
@TheAstroPub@OlliHull Imo this video is some of the most corporate feeling content they've done. Open dev shouldn't be retrospective and crafting a narrative after the patch is out, it should be transparency about what's in dev before it's out the door.
@OlliHull I can appreciate that y'all were trying something new but this is really emphatically Not It. Open dev isn't weird post-hoc director commentary videos, it's not crafting a narrative after the fact of how a patch cycle went, and that's what this video was. Just my 2 cents.
@OlliHull This felt like some of the most corporate, most deliberate, most cynical video content yet. The weird "x days to release" stuff (as if we don't all know this release wasn't planned ahead, but was the result of being pushed back), the weird stilted meetings/dramatizations.
@MeesRp@rhae_nys I think this is a cop out that ignores the way the media people consumes can inform the way they relate to the world around them, especially when that media is written in such a way as the draw pretty explicit parallels. "It's just a story" is not the mature and sober take here.
@MeesRp Kinda weird of you to assume none of them do but then I realize the only real goal here is "get the people saying things I don't like to go away" not any kinda actual principle
