The shocking events unfolding in South Korea can be a tragic lesson for Romania for this week’s presidential elections. This happens when you have a dictatorial-prone president who puts his interests above anything else
🇷🇴Romanian MP Cătălin Teniță’s presence at the #IPAC summit in #Taiwan has drawn notable attention, especially after the Chinese Embassy demanded control over his actions. What will Romania’s next steps be? Read more in our new article by @AndreeaLeonteRo.

I am so happy to share the latest @ETNC17 report. It is about how de-risking is perceived in 21 #EU members states + the #UK and it was expertly coordinated by the @kinacentrum
The 2024 @ETNC17 report has now been released!
The report examines the viewpoints of 21 EU member states and the United Kingdom on “de-risking,” as well as the practical steps they have taken towards implementing this much-discussed policy 🇪🇺🇨🇳
If you still have the report “De-risking or de-coupling − the future of the EU strategy towards China” in your reading list, here is one of the arguments presented in the report: the EU lacks a comprehensive long-term China strategy.
Thanks @tepsaeu for publishing it!
For the first time our network (and many of it members) are in Vilnius! Very interesting exchanges again on EU-China relations from the different national perspectives. Thanks to Konstantinas Andrijauskas and @VU_LT for hosting us.
My thoughts about the BRI for @ChinaObservers: the BRI is mainly a branding strategy for China’s foreign policy and its most important consequence was to determine G7 countries to come up with similar initiatives like Global Gateway, PGII or IMEC.
From a global innovative strategy to an imperial debt trap, the image of #BRI has been evolving, and the 10th anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on this change. Read more in our latest article by @Andreebrin. 👇

The EU had its first summit for the Global Gateway infrastructure project. Can it become an alternative to China’s massive Belt and Road Initiative? Report by @ReidStan https://t.co/UUlHZYD99Q
Now that the EU will host its first Global Gateway summit, it must learn from the Belt and Road Forum’s mistakes… The BRF should have improved the BRI’s damaged image, but it has ended up a venue for illiberal leaders and China’s friends.

But even worse, why did an EU-funded project, the Pelješac Bridge in Croatia, end up in China’s new BRI white paper? How is an EU project a BRI project? Just for the brand…

The BRI is one of the most ambiguous, misunderstood and abused concepts. For example, look how a private, non-BRI investment became a BRI project in an article about the “$1 trillion project of the century”:
https://t.co/lDwBgnzYhs
“China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. and Mercedes-Benz Group AG, for example, plan to invest more than $7 billion in a plant in Hungary, the biggest single project in a BRI country since it started in 2013.”
