@laurehaines @victwittt @RichAzzopardi I am an orthodontist w/pediatric dentists. We care about our staff and want all employees protected. We have combed over all that’s out there and we may find some things are gimmicks that we are paying for now. We really should look at it as aerosol vs. non-aerosol procedures.

@laurehaines @victwittt @RichAzzopardi Our Dentists use non-disposable long sleeve smocks (PPE that is washable). Bonnets, level 3 masks, & face shields for aerosol procedures. That extra oral suction is marketing and not proven. Two high speed suctions are likely more effective. Use rubber dams & dry cutting.

@laurehaines @victwittt @RichAzzopardi High speed suctions ARE aerosol vacuums every dentist already has. I use proven infection control protocols, PPE, & modified techniques to minimize risk. We have less risk than others who are working (ENT’s)-I should not be held back for other’s irrational fears for me.

I also have less risk than other medical colleagues who are working-I should not be held back for others irrational fears for me.

@Carrie45630 @GreatNeckOrtho @RichAzzopardi Is it more dangerous for an ENT to do surgery with Nasal secretions, saliva, and blood to deal with? I am not allowed to change a rubber band on a brace because saliva is risky? It does not make sense...

Dentists use PPE w/high speed evacuation and can modify procedures to reduce aerosols (cut dry w/a handpiece). In Orthodontics, I can completely eliminate aerosols by using hand instruments and bonding without the air-water spray.
