Congratulations to the NHS and Oxford for doing a high-quality RCT in just over 3 months, showing a survival benefit for hypoxic COVID-19 patients from an old, cheap, generic drug that's been in my hospital's pharmacy all along. I expect this to save many lives around the world.

The political press keeps asking whether Gaza and AIPAC "resonate" with voters (a smart lane, a losing one, lean in or move on). It's a strange violence, watching a death toll this large -- 73,000 dead, 3% of Gaza's population, before counting those under the rubble or lost to disease and malnutrition -- graded like a sports play.

I think of the American doctors I met who served in Gaza, the smells and sounds they described. Mostly women and children. People, before they became a lane or a liability.

Sometimes I don't want a take. I want a silence large enough to hold what happened and what we did. It never comes. Just more noise, filling the space where quiet and some basic respect for the dead should be.

@matthewstoller @martyrmade Huh, that’s a good question, especially given that there’s widespread support on the political left for normalization of relations with Cuba. So why not also support normalization with Iran? I wonder if @hecubian_devil can explain this. She’s quite smart.

If we’re demanding full historical purity, the only acceptable version is a live performance in an ancient Greek open air theatrical area, performed entirely in dactylic hexameter, under natural light, with no microphones, no seats for the audience, and goats wandering through the orchestra.

That’s something I’ve wondered about, and sounds like something a political scientist or somebody like that could study and publish on. I haven’t run across anything, but I haven’t really looked.

@Fly_Pete @TerribleMaps It’s a blue state that’s pretty poor. However, due to oil and gas revenue, New Mexico does get to fund social programs as if we were a middle-income blue state instead of a poor one.
