President William Ruto departs Nairobi for Beijing, China, on September 1, 2024, for an official visit! This evening, the President will be leading the Kenyan delegation to the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit. The summit brings together African Heads of State, Chinese leaders, and the African Union Commission to discuss and strengthen Sino-African relations. The summit's theme, "Joining Hands to Advance Modernisation and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future," highlights the commitment of both African governments and China to leverage their comparative advantages to foster industrial and socio-economic development policies and programs for a prosperous future.

Kenya is a crucial partner in China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a key pillar of which is FOCAC. Kenya's involvement in the BRI has resulted in transformative infrastructure projects, including the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the Nairobi Motorway, the Kipevu Oil Terminal, and various bypasses in Nairobi. During his visit to Beijing, President Ruto will participate in several high-profile meetings and events to further strengthen Kenya-China relations and explore new areas of collaboration. Key engagements include a meeting with President Xi Jinping to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of cooperation between Kenya and China.

The expected outcomes of the FOCAC Summit include the Beijing Declaration by Heads of State and Government and an action plan detailing agreed areas of cooperation for the period between 2025 and 2027. President Ruto's visit is anticipated to yield significant benefits for Kenya, including strengthened strategic partnership with China, agreements on support for infrastructure development, the conclusion of discussions on new cooperation projects, the commencement of talks on establishing a pharmaceutical park, the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), and the Investment Protection Agreement (IPA).

Our democracy may not be the most perfect in Africa, but it accords us certain freedoms citizens of some countries only dream about.

Few countries in Africa can citizens direct the level of vulgarity that Kenyans direct to their President and government officials. Who is the Boniface Mwangi of Djibouti? Does not exist. Who is the Buibui of Djibouti? Does not exist. Who is the Aoko of Djibouti? Does not exist. Who is the Morara, McOure and many of these Gen Z minions of Djibouti? They do not exist. Why? Because Djibouti is a hermit country tightly controlled by the authoritarian ruling regime that’s pushing for the candidature of the foreign minister to be AUC.

You support a candidate form a country where you’d long have been dead had you been this loud in it. Kenyans take Kenya for granted. It is no wonder they can lend their support to a Djibouti candidate against their own.
