Blossom end rot is a common physiological disorder in tomatoes (and other fruits, such as peppers and eggplants), caused by a calcium deficiency. It typically appears as a dark, sunken, leather spot at the fruit's blossom end (opposite the stem).
As I mentioned in my last post (part I), Sodium ions (Na⁺) in the water can outcompete calcium ions (Ca²⁺) at the root level, reducing calcium uptake.
However, one of the most significant impacts is that high sodium water levels increase soil salinity, thereby disrupting water movement and nutrient availability. This stress can make it more difficult for the plant to transport calcium to the developing fruit.
@Agronomme_ Yes,
At my first time, I found it in tomatoes of my parents. However, it's prevention is difficult for affected fruits( Not easy to heal). It's better to control it before the plants affected.
@Agronomme_ This is the most dangerous disease in horticultural crops. The control measures are applying Calcium based fertilizers or application of Lime before planting to lower soil salinity (Na+).
