Thank you Eric for sharing this story. It happens every day
Positive CAC leads to a search for ischemia which leads to angiogram and scant few docs can resist the urge. Your pt was lucky as it can even lead to bypass
Something needs to be done about this evidence-free practice
@drjasonfung Is it really a trial about statins if 44% in one arm is on a statin and 30% in the other arm is on a statin? 14% difference in statin prescription between two groups doesn’t seem like it’s set up to answer the question about outcomes as they relate to statin use.
HOST-EXAM trial 10-year results: Clopidogrel monotherapy is superior to aspirin for chronic maintenance after PCI, significantly reducing both thrombotic and bleeding events. #ACC26 View slides here: https://t.co/ihoudzlxIi
BREAKING: #HRStv host @DanielAlyeshmer is joined by @drjohnm and @LuigiDiBiaseMD to debate the latest evidence surrounding left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). They review critical trials such as PROTECT, PREVAIL, and OPTION, discuss real-world data from the NCDR registry, and look ahead to the highly anticipated CHAMPION-AF trial at ACC 2026.

Continuing with my series on "Understanding the Lipid Panel" - one metric at a time: next are insights on Triglycerides. The lipid panel reports Total TG which is an estimate of the mass (weight) of all the glycerides (mono-, bi- and triacylglycerols) in all of the lipoproteins circulating in a deciliter of plasma or the number (mmol/L) of glyceride molecules in all of the lipoproteins per Liter. Most of the TG are in apoB-particles, so TG level is a crude guestimate of apoB. More important than LDL-C is LDL-TG (rarely assayed). The MACE-reducing goal when treating HTG is not to normalize the TG per se, but to normalize apoB. @nationallipid@atherosociety@ASPCardio@escardio@atherosociety@foundationofnla@FamilyHeartFdn@fhpatienteurope #triglyceride
@willyhfrick@drjohnm Totally agree. I’ve even heard of people using CAC scans as a means to go straight to angiography(!!). It also doesn’t help that the little table attached to most calcium scores reads something like: “score >400, obstructive disease likely present”. So bad…
@InfoNbpas@doctorwes@chadinabhan @AaronGoodman33 We need to get NBPAS as an alternate path everywhere. Despite paying $1900 to the ACC last year and successfully passing CV boards as an alternative MOC pathway, ABIM stripped me of my boards unless I pay them $1650, including “late fees.” 🤢
