@digitallynativ And the subgenre of ads from agencies saying they can help you create the next viral smash. I get ads from Raindrop in my feed all the time.
@rmchuge@moizali Branded keywords tend to have very high ROAS b/c the shopper is already aware of your brand and is much more likely to convert.
Also generally lower CPCs than generic terms (though not always).
So agencies shout about their high ROAS but obscure the breakdown by target.
@moizali The opportunity is using brand terms to drive incremental sales by featuring new items, mid-tier performers, differentiated promos, etc. Then it starts to feel less like a tax & more like a value add.
V. important to pre-align w/agency on KPI targets for each bidding strategy.
@DelRey Spitballing, but Amazon’s Choice is believed to be based on conversions against that search term, along with signals like reviews (qty and star rating) and return rate. They likely use a recency bias for those, and they’ve said they use early reviews to refine products.
Facebook is testing threaded posts. I saw a “Add a post to continue this thought” prompt on my profile page underneath each post. The next screen says “Your new post will be added to your previous one
after you share.” a la Twitter threads.
@ShiraOvide Strong guess: big surge in new online merchants advertising through FB/IG and selling goods drop-shipped from overseas. Items take forever to deliver, so people just dispute the charge when it hasn’t arrived X days later.
@ShiraOvide Agree, and the relentless focus on Prime Day's benefit to small businesses seems intended to deflect focus on how Amazon itself benefitted.
From talking to peers, results were all over the place. Some doubled YOY, some were flat, some pulled back or sat out.
Woke up this morning and excitedly downloaded @BradStone’s new book about Amazon like it was an overnight Taylor Swift album drop. Can’t wait to dive in!
@AmazonChron@tcarmody Tim, glad to have your keen insight back. Looking forward to fresh Chrons. Sorry to read about everything you’ve been through this past year.
@MGTalksRetail I’ve been offered as much as $3 for orders with multiple items (presumably in different DCs not nearby) for deliveries up to 10 days later. Guessing that the conversion rate on the incentive is low enough to not fully negate the cost savings.
