This is a crucial decision. Rivers like the Vjosa, Drin, Neretva, Morača, Vardar, Danube support numerous endangered species and are vital for the livelihoods of local communities. They should be the backbone of the European network of protected sites. #EmeraldForRivers @coe

1/2🎉 Good news for the Western Balkans! On 6 December, the Bern Convention established a new target for expanding the Emerald Network of protected areas across Europe.

ℹ️By 2030, Western Balkan countries must significantly increase their share of conservation zones from the current low of 0.7% to a substantial 35%.

The #BernConvention decision on listing the wolf as 'protected'. After this the Norwegian and Swiss case files for culling of wolf were opened! And a new working group created because wolf downlisting was without 'evidence based mechanism'. No free wolf hunting will be allowed!

I truly believe in the #BernConvention and hope the third and forth photo are not a preparation for the downlisting of the wolf. There are much more important work to do and political decisions at the @EU_Commission should not spoil our nature-conservation work at the convention
