We hosted a farewell reception tonight in the presence of Administration officials, the Defense Attaché corps and local diaspora leaders, for our Defense Attaché Colonel Andreas Andreou, welcoming at the same time Commander Achilleas Ioannides in Washington DC. Colonel Andreou served with distinction and we wish him the very best as he returns to Cyprus - and a fruitful and productive posting to Commander Ioannides! @DefenceCyprus

Today we commemorate the 52nd Anniversary of Turkey's illegal invasion of Cyprus. As a proud Greek American, I abhor Turkey’s actions in the region and will continue to be a strong advocate for the end of Erdogan's unjust military occupation on the island and the human rights abuses there.

Important meeting today in Nicosia between 🇨🇾 Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection Nicholas Ioannides
and 🇺🇸 @DHSgov Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy & Plans Rob Law.

A very useful and productive exchange of views on migration matters, tackling illegal smuggling networks and other related challenges.

The meeting reaffirmed the close and robust🇨🇾-🇺🇸 bilateral cooperation, in the context of our strategic partnership.

Συναντήθηκα σήμερα με τον Υφυπουργό Στρατηγικής, Πολιτικής και Σχεδιασμού του Υπουργείου Εσωτερικής Ασφάλειας των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών (Department of Homeland Security – DHS), κ. Rob Law @the_roblaw.

Επιβεβαιώθηκε ότι οι σχέσεις 🇨🇾 🇺🇸 βρίσκονται σε εξαιρετικό επίπεδο και η συνεργασία των δύο κρατών διευρύνεται συνεχώς.

Ενημέρωσα τον κ. Law για τη μεταναστευτική μας πολιτική και ανταλλάξαμε απόψεις σχετικά με την αντιμετώπιση των παράνομων δικτύων διακινητών και άλλων προκλήσεων που αφορούν στη μετανάστευση.

Συζητήσαμε, επίσης, για την προσπάθεια της Κύπρου να ενταχθεί στη Ζώνη #Schengen και το πρόγραμμα visa waiver.

Οι επαφές μας καταδεικνύουν ότι η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία αποτελεί πυλώνα σταθερότητας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο και γέφυρα συνεργασίας μεταξύ Δύσης και χωρών του Κόλπου-Μέσης Ανατολής.

We marked the conclusion of the 🇨🇾 presidency of the Council of the EU with a reception last night at the residence, passing on the symbolic presidency baton from Cyprus 🇨🇾 ➡️ to Ireland 🇮🇪.

With the strategic vision encapsulated by "An Autonomous Union. Open to the World", the presidency @CY2026EU achieved concrete results in a wide range of policy areas for the benefit of all 🇪🇺 citizens.

We wish the very best to our Irish colleagues here in Washington @IrelandEmbUSA as they assume the mantle of leading the Council for the next six months.

A timely and very important Hearing was convened earlier today in Congress, by the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission and its Co-Chairs, Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Jim McGovern (D-MA), “Human Rights in Turkish-Occupied Cyprus: Erdogan's Record and Its Implications for the Ankara NATO Summit”. The Hearing began with briefing remarks by Ambassador Evangelos Savva, who highlighted the numerous human rights violations in Cyprus stemming from the Turkish invasion of 1974 and ongoing occupation since, of more than 36% of its territory while also tracing Turkey’s 52-year dismal record of flouting international law and United Nations Security Council Resolutions pertaining to the Cyprus Question. Witnesses Michael Rubin (Director of Policy Analysis, Middle East Forum), Sinan Ciddi (Turkey Program Director, Foundation for Defense of Democracies) Savas Tsivicos (PSEKA) shared in-depth insights on Turkey’s intransigent policy on Cyprus and its broader foreign policy impact in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Hearing also included remarks and questions posed to the three witnesses by Representatives Gus Bilirakis, Brad Schneider and Dina Titus, who underlined the bipartisan support in Congress towards Cyprus in its quest for a just and viable settlement in line with Security Council Resolutions while also focusing on the increased value of Cyprus as a credible and reliable partner of the US.

We were delighted to welcome to the Embassy, yesterday afternoon, students from the Sister Cities International Youth Leadership Program, accompanied by the leadership of @SisterCitiesInt.

Students learned about Cyprus’ rich history and cultural heritage, as well as its role in promoting peace, regional cooperation, and international engagement and undestanding.

It was a thrill to have hosted this event and see so many youngsters exhibit such keen interest in 🇨🇾 and our region of the world.

Had the chance to brief them, followed by a Q+A session, on 🇨🇾 foreign policy, the strengthened 🇨🇾-🇺🇸ties and the Cyprus Question. We are sure they will have an enjoyable and stimulating trip.

Every refugee carries within them an open wound. This wound has a face and a name. It has a village, a home, a courtyard, a church, an ancestral grave.

In 1974, more than 200,000 Cypriots became refugees in their own homeland.
To grasp the true scale of this tragedy, almost two in five Greek Cypriots were violently uprooted from their land. From the land that gave them birth, from the homes that held their childhood years, from the memories and roots that were rightfully theirs.

To be a refugee in your own homeland is a tragedy that exceeds the limits of both mind and soul. It is the unbearable pain of uprooting, the loss of ancestral land, the daily emptiness left behind by the absence of everything once taken for granted. It is the people who left believing they would soon return, and the generations who grew up keeping memory, hope and the expectation of return alive.

Fifty two years later, displacement remains the living and deeply human testimony of the crime of the invasion and the ongoing occupation.

We do not forget. We do not come to terms with injustice. We keep alive the hope of return and continue, with faith and perseverance, the struggle to end the occupation, for the liberation and reunification of our homeland.

Για δεκαετίες, η κυπροαμερικανική κοινότητα αποτελεί σταθερό πυλώνα των προσπαθειών μας. Με ισχυρή φωνή, συνέπεια και αξιοπιστία, διασφάλισε ότι η υπόθεση της Κύπρου παραμένει παρούσα στην Ουάσιγκτον, εκεί όπου διαμορφώνονται κρίσιμες αποφάσεις.

Στο 41ο Συνέδριο της ΠΣΕΚΑ είχα την ευκαιρία να μεταφέρω ένα σαφές μήνυμα: η Κύπρος σήμερα στέκεται με μεγαλύτερη αυτοπεποίθηση, με ισχυρότερες διεθνείς σχέσεις, πιο αναβαθμισμένο περιφερειακό ρόλο και μια οικονομία που αποδεικνύει στην πράξη την ανθεκτικότητα και τη δυναμική της.

Πριν από τρία χρόνια, κατά την πρώτη επίσημη επίσκεψή μου στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες ως Κυβερνητικός Εκπρόσωπος, μίλησα για τις δυνατότητες που ανοίγονταν μπροστά στη χώρα μας.

Φέτος, επιστρέψαμε με αποδείξεις για την πρόοδο που έχει επιτευχθεί.

Αποδείξεις ότι η Κύπρος μπορεί να αποκτήσει ισχυρότερη φωνή. Ότι μπορεί να οικοδομεί στρατηγικές συνεργασίες. Ότι μπορεί να μετατρέπει την αξιοπιστία της σε διπλωματική ισχύ. Ότι μια χώρα, όταν έχει καθαρή κατεύθυνση και σταθερή προσήλωση, μπορεί να διαδραματίσει ρόλο πολύ μεγαλύτερο από το μέγεθός της.

Σήμερα, η χώρα μας καταγράφει έναν από τους υψηλότερους ρυθμούς ανάπτυξης στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, τη χαμηλότερη ανεργία των τελευταίων δεκαετιών, συνεχή αναβαθμίσεις από διεθνείς οίκους αξιολόγησης, ισχυρή δημοσιονομική εικόνα και αυξανόμενο επενδυτικό ενδιαφέρον. Η Κύπρος ενισχύει την αμυντική της θωράκιση, αναβαθμίζει τη στρατηγική της σχέση με τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, εμβαθύνει τις σχέσεις της με την Ινδία, την Ευρώπη και τα κράτη της περιοχής, επενδύει στην ενέργεια, την τεχνολογία, την καινοτομία και τη νέα γενιά.

Η ενδυνάμωση της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας είναι το θεμέλιο πάνω στο οποίο οικοδομούμε μια πιο ισχυρή οικονομία, μια πιο αξιόπιστη διεθνή παρουσία και μια πιο αποτελεσματική εθνική αποστολή.

Και αυτή η ισχυρότερη Κύπρος έχει έναν τελικό εθνικό στόχο: την απελευθέρωση και επανένωση της πατρίδας μας.

Her contribution has also been particularly important in strengthening 🇨🇾🇺🇸 relations, which in recent years have been substantially upgraded and continue to acquire greater strategic depth.

Όσο μακριά και αν τους οδήγησε η ζωή, οι απόδημοί μας δεν έπαψαν ποτέ να έχουν την Κύπρο μέσα τους. Να αγωνιούν για τον τόπο μας. Να μεταφέρουν τη φωνή του στα κέντρα λήψης αποφάσεων. Να κρατούν ζωντανή τη μνήμη και την ελπίδα.

Εδώ και τέσσερις δεκαετίες, η ΠΣΕΚΑ και η κυπριακή ομογένεια στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες κρατούν την Κύπρο ψηλά στην αμερικανική πολιτική ατζέντα, με συνέπεια, επιμονή και βαθιά αφοσίωση στην ιδιαίτερη πατρίδα τους.

Η παρουσία μου στο 41ο Συνέδριο της ΠΣΕΚΑ συμπίπτει με μια κρίσιμη περίοδο. Η νέα πρωτοβουλία του Γενικού Γραμματέα των Ηνωμένων Εθνών δημιουργεί νέα κινητικότητα και ανοίγει έναν νέο κύκλο προσπαθειών για επανέναρξη ουσιαστικών διαπραγματεύσεων.

Είχα την ευκαιρία να ενημερώσω για τις τελευταίες εξελίξεις στο Κυπριακό, για τις πρωτοβουλίες του Προέδρου Χριστοδουλίδη και για τη συνολική προσπάθεια ενίσχυσης της χώρας μας.

Για την πολυδιάστατη εξωτερική πολιτική που διευρύνει τα διεθνή μας ερείσματα.

Για την οικονομία που ενισχύει την αξιοπιστία και την ανθεκτικότητα της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας.

Για την αμυντική μας θωράκιση και για τη σταθερή αναβάθμιση της σχέσης μας με τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και με στρατηγικούς εταίρους.

Για την ενίσχυση όλων των παραγόντων ισχύος της χώρας μας.

Με έναν και μόνο στόχο: μια ισχυρότερη Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, με περισσότερα εργαλεία, ισχυρότερη φωνή και μεγαλύτερη δυνατότητα να υπηρετήσει την εθνική μας επιδίωξη, την επίλυση του Κυπριακού.

Σε αυτή την εθνική προσπάθεια, η φωνή των αποδήμων μας παραμένει πολύτιμη. Και η προσφορά τους βαθιά συγκινητική.

Στο πλαίσιο του 41ου Συνεδρίου της ΠΣΕΚΑ, πραγματοποιήσαμε σειρά σημαντικών συναντήσεων με μέλη της Βουλής και της Γερουσίας των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών.

Οι σχέσεις 🇨🇾🇺🇸 έχουν καταγράψει τα τελευταία χρόνια ουσιαστική και μετρήσιμη πρόοδο. Σήμερα, η συνεργασία μας διευρύνεται σταθερά σε τομείς στρατηγικής σημασίας, από την ασφάλεια και την ενέργεια μέχρι την οικονομία, την τεχνολογία και την περιφερειακή σταθερότητα.

Η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία αναγνωρίζεται πλέον ως ένας αξιόπιστος και προβλέψιμος εταίρος των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο. Ως ένα κράτος που μπορεί να συμβάλλει ουσιαστικά στην ασφάλεια, στη συνεργασία και στη σταθερότητα της ευρύτερης περιοχής.

Την ίδια ώρα, το μήνυμα μας παραμένει σαφές. Ο αγώνας για τερματισμό της κατοχής, για αποκατάσταση της νομιμότητας και για δικαίωση του κυπριακού λαού συνεχίζεται με την ίδια αποφασιστικότητα. Με συνέπεια, με επιμονή και με πίστη στο Διεθνές Δίκαιο.

Η διαχρονική και διακομματική στήριξη που εκφράζεται στο αμερικανικό Κογκρέσο αποτελεί πολύτιμο στήριγμα σε αυτή την προσπάθεια. Γιατί κάθε βήμα που ενισχύει τη διεθνή θέση της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, ενισχύει και τη δύναμή μας να διεκδικούμε την απελευθέρωση και την επανένωση της πατρίδας μας.
