@cookswelljikos@WaterTowersKe It's going well! I have an average of 6,000 stems per acre of seedlings that germinated from seed and survived the first year. The cover crop residue (mulch) suppressed weeds the first half of our long growing season without the need for any chemical or mechanical weed control.
@PrairieCzar @KCMikeMahoney And now I’m frustrated with myself because I just called it a “reduction”! Might be semantics, but language influences behavior. “Conservation grazing system” or something might be better language to encourage a symbiotic conservation production mindset.
@PrairieCzar @KCMikeMahoney Yes, you are right, it is allowed! The reduction can vary, but it is allowed. It’s been a frustration for me when people think it can’t be grazed. Conservation and production can coexist!
@PrairieCzar I use Collector for other field data collection, not really seed collection. I did use Survey123 for a while with seed collection, but have moved away from it because we just remember our good honey holes, and don’t go to the lesser spots as much.
@lars_brudvig Very cool! Great opportunity for your students! Did you ever consider direct seeding your trees? Check out the amazing natural roots systems of these direct seeded oaks compared to the nursery grown oak on the left. And direct seeding is sooooo much cheaper!
