Last night three extraordinary officers, were honoured with the National Police Bravery Award 2025 for their courageous response to the horrific Southport attack.
Sergeant Gregory Gillespie, Constable Luke Holden, and PCSO Timothy Parry were first on the scene on 29th July 2024 and faced with unimaginable horror.
They responded with instinctive courage, composure, and professionalism.
Despite the chaos and fear they faced, they bravely confronted the violent attacker.
They protected innocent lives without hesitation and with no thought for their own safety. There is no doubt that their bravery and quick thinking, prevented further tragedy that day.
While the award is a bittersweet recognition, it stands as a powerful reminder of the courage and commitment shown by those who protect our communities.
Congratulations to Sergeant Gillespie, Constable Holden and PCSO Parry, who also achieved overall regional winners on the night too.
You are a credit to our force and we are incredibly proud of you.
As always, our thoughts remain with the Alice, Bebe and Elsie, their families, and everyone affected by that devastating day ♥️

Today marks 20 years since the 7/7 London bombings.
We remember the 52 lives lost that day, the 770 injured, and the families of all affected.
Thank you to the first responders who showed extraordinary courage and tireless commitment to the safety of Londoners – both in the immediate aftermath and to this day, ensuring this terrible tragedy never happens again.

📢I'm pleased to announce that after a rigorous assessment and interview process, @CumbriaChief Rob Carden is my preferred choice to be the next Chief Constable of @MerseyPolice
Subject to approval by the Police and Crime Panel, Rob will replace @merpolchiefcon Serena Kennedy KPM in September, following her decision to retire.
Before joining Cumbria Constabulary as Deputy Chief Constable in 2022, Rob had spent the majority of his career in #Merseyside, having joined the force in 1992 following in his father’s footsteps.
During his 20 years with the force, he led on a number of extremely high-profile incidents and he fully understands the unique challenges of policing our region. I am sure he will continue Serena's excellent work delivering the best possible policing service for our local communities.
1️⃣1️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ young people reached through Operation Prospect, our education project exploring knife and gun crime. Thank you to all the schools for taking part and helping us empower students to speak up, stay safe & make positive decisions. 👏

📖PCC Emily Spurrell issues statement as @merpolchiefcon announces retirement.
Since becoming the first female Chief Constable to lead Merseyside Police in 2021, Serena has been a credit to both the force and our region serving our communities with unwavering courage, integrity and dedication.
She has been an exemplary leader. From the awful events in Southport, to the complex investigations into the murders of Olivia, Ashley and Elle, and the resulting prosecutions. To the bombing outside the Women’s Hospital, and the vastly successful policing operation during Eurovision, Serena’s professionalism and drive to do what’s right for our communities has never waned throughout what has been, arguably, the most extraordinary and challenging time Merseyside Police has ever faced.
It has been an honour to work alongside such an excellent Chief Constable, delivering on our shared priorities to keep Merseyside safe and I know she will continue to serve with distinction until she officially leaves the role.
