@rosswclarke @tfwrail If you’re only travelling between Newport and Cardiff surely there are enough tfw and cross country trains to choose from so you can use pay as you go and avoid a gwr train? Pay as you go is so much cheaper and worth the inconvenience of not catching a gwr train.
