She lived a life full of deep meaning that influenced not just those of us close to her, but so many others. One year ago, an orphaned elephant calf was stretchered into our care. She’d been found at the bottom of a well by KWS rangers. They hauled the tiny baby onto dry land & waited in vain for her herd to appear: when no elephants were seen or heard, they greenlit her rescue.

That was a little over a year ago. Since then, we’ve remained at Korbessa's side every day, providing the specialist care she needed to beat the odds & survive the difficult teething process & precarious neonate stage. As you can see, that hard effort has paid off! Today, she is a sprightly & impish character who rules the roost at Kaluku.
