Leader of Liverpool City Council, Councillor Liam Robinson met with the Vice President of Chery Commercial Vehicle (CCV), Yang Junling, at the company's head office in Shanghai to endorse the establishment of CCV's European Headquarters in Liverpool.
The investment, announced yesterday as part of Prime Minster Keir Starmer's visit to China will one of the most significant projects for the Liverpool's advanced manufacturing sector in recent years.
The move will position Liverpool at the forefront of Europe’s fast growing electric, autonomous, hydrogen and next generation commercial vehicle market and is expected to create high‑value jobs across engineering, software development, R&D and operational roles, contributing significantly to Liverpool’s skilled workforce.
In addition, the collaboration will expand opportunities for local, Liverpool-based suppliers within the advanced manufacturing manufacturing supply chain.
Councillor Liam Robinson said, "It's fantastic to be here at Chery Commercial Vehicle's office in Shanghai as we've gone through the formal unveiling ceremony to bring Chery Commercial Vehicle's European Headquarters to Liverpool.
"We are so proud that we've been able to bring our good friends from Chery Commecial Vehicle to our city. We think there are huge opportunities for our city. We are absolutely delighted that Chery Commercial Vehicle has recognised the strengths of our city and the fact that we have such a strong automotive cluster, we've got a skilled workforce and that we're a global trading city."
The decision to block Andy Burnham shows a leadership more concerned with party factional politics than winning Gorton & Denton.
It risks handing the seat to Reform and undermines party democracy.
This is weak leadership, and it now requires an emergency NEC meeting
I have today written to the Chair of Labour’s National Executive Committee seeking permission to enter the selection process for a candidate for the forthcoming Gorton and Denton by-election.
