@ccpsinfo I attended a first annual gala last night that was hosted by @_megwalker3. She has started a nonprofit to benefit our youth. It was a great event. It would be even better if we supported our CCPS Monacan High School graduate who is going on to do great things.
@readswithme Q4
I created a chart with the 6 syllable charts to display in my room. I would also like to use the word ladders if my grade level agrees. #maesreading

It helps to teach developmentally. It provides a foundation beginning in kinder and then progressing to other grade levels.

@readswithme A4 @readswithme Yes. DRA just tells me that my students are able to read, it does not give me details about which skills they are lacking. With a SLR approach I will incorporate vocabulary, comprehension, phonics, phonemic awareness, and spelling.
@readswithme A5 @readswithme I give the students a task and set a timer. The students can collaborate with peers or work independently. If they continue to struggle I ask them questions that help to promote think time.
@readswithme A1 @readswithme I received my teaching credential in California. It was mandatory to teach the 6 syllable types as well as phonics. I will first need to see where my students are and then proceed from there.
@readswithme A4 I have students write about a topic that relates to the reading in writing journals. I've had this activity as a writing center during small group. For my struggling readers/writers, I show them how to go back, add detail as well as how to correct spelling errors

@readswithme#maesreading A 3 Last school year I printed out the decodeable text. Also, we recieved multiple copies which were printed by the county. It would be nice to have multiple copies that I do not have to print myself to use in small group and to give to the students to take home.
@readswithme#maesreading A2. The WB combined the most popular high frequency word lists to create a "power" list for grades k-2. I will use a sound wall for the high frequency words and have a section that will include the irregular words.
@readswithme A2 WB mentions that Blevins combined several high frequency word lists to create a "power" list to teach in K-2 with irregular words clearly pointed out. I will create a sound wall for the high frequency words and have a section for the irregualar words.
@readswithme A1 I use word sorts in small group. Over the years I have made word sort games. I have them in folders which has made transition time easier. #maesreading
@readswithme A4 I ask the students to go back and look at the word that they read or wrote. Some of my students are able to self correct. If I'm working with a struggling reader, I guide the student through the process so that the student can be successful. #maesreading
