Post from a Beekeeper ๐
โIts late, and maybe in the morning I'll delete this post, but I've just got home and for now I need to write this down.
Earlier this evening I received a message from a home owner to say they had a swarm of bees in their hedge, but they were worried about them because children had been throwing water at them.
By the time my fellow beekeeper and I arrived, what had been a beautiful prime swarm was reduced to a few hundred drenched bees, huddling limply around their queen.
I've already deleted the photos of the puddles of water, the dripping wet hedge, and the many, many dead and dying bees that hadn't been able to escape the attack; sharing those pictures serves no purpose.
We gently placed the bees that had survived into a collection box, and hopefully tomorrow, when they've had chance to dry out and settle, we'll check on them and if necessary feed them; they'll be exhausted and possibly (understandably) defensive. They've been through a lot.
Please, please, help me to educate your children, your grandchildren, your neices and nephews, your neighbours, your colleagues and your friends that a swarm of bees isn't dangerous - they're amazing creatures that are just looking for a new home.
Please don't let anyone harm them.
Just call a beekeeper who will gladly rehome them.
Please help me to spread this message and hopefully save any more bees from being unnecessarily harmedโ ๐ข
Sad and unhappy Beekeeper
@mhdksafa@YourLittleKanga 2/2 Shortly afterwards he saw the man lose his balance and my son caught him, steadied him and made sure he was ok. I am very proud of my son for being proactive and caring.
@mhdksafa@YourLittleKanga Yesterday my son messgd me to say, while waiting for his flight luggage to come round the airport carousel, he saw a frail, elderly gent struggle, & fail, to retrieve his case. As he watched it move away, my son ran to grab it for him. He was so very grateful.

@Meg_BCherry Hi, Megan!
I hope you're keepong well. I believe we used to chat on one of the many twitter hours and you once explained where the 'bonfirecherry' in your handle came about.
It's good to come across you again x
@PaulCliftonBBC I'm sure the family felt safe and very welcome in your home, Paul. I'm so sorry for what they are going through, but thankful that you were able to help.
@prenderro @emma__jenner1 I would love to have had one of those. A friend and I even talked about how such an invention would be a game changer! (This was in yhe '90s before they were a thing!). If only I'd thought it through more!!
@prenderro @emma__jenner1 I can relate to that. I broke my talus, and was ninnnweight bearing for over a year. On crutches for over two years (it was complicated). Wishing you a full and speedy recovery x
@___batshitcrazy@Kit_Yates_Maths My mum worked in a church primary school where two boys in her class sat next to each other and mucked about. She had to call them out quite regularly - "Matthew! Mark!"...
@SarahMillican75 We have the same problem. Huge cauli cheese and enough veggies to feed an army yesterday, between two of us. We both looked at it and said "why?"
