On 18 November, Monica Sjöö: The Great Cosmic Mother opens at Modern Art Oxford. It is an exploration of the life and work of Monica Sjöö (1938 -2005) a prolific and visionary artist, writer, activist and eco-feminist.

On Sunday 12th November the Barbican will be showing the classic Swedish Film Sven Klang’s Kvintett (Sven Klang’s Combo). The film is a 1976 musical drama directed by Stellan Olsson. In 2012 it was voted one of the 25 best Swedish films of all time.

The Anglo-Swedish Society congratulate their patron HM King Carl XVI Gustaf on his 50th jubilee. The King ascended to the throne on 15 September 1973. He is Sweden's longest reigning monarch of all time.

Congratulations to our 2022-23 Art Scholar, Mils Bridgewater, whose piece 'Stockholm 1' has been chosen to be part of the Royal Society of Marine Artist's exhibition. 'Stockholm 1' was inspired by the water around Stockholm while Mils was on her residency at Konstfack University.

The Swedish Match King Ivar Kreuger.

Safety matches were basically an 1840s Swedish invention; early manufacture was based in Jonkoping. Ivar's father had a couple of factories, one in Kalmar where the family lived.
