O’BRIEN, ZUCKERMAN REELECTED TO SECOND FIVE-YEAR TERM LEADING TEAMSTERS
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that Sean M. O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman have been reelected to another five-year term as General President and General Secretary-Treasurer, respectively, renewing a mandate for powerful, militant leadership on behalf of 1.3 million rank-and-file Teamsters across North America.
The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate was elected by white ballot at the union’s 31st International Convention in Las Vegas following a secret ballot vote of 1,572 delegates. All voting delegates were democratically elected to the convention by rank-and-file members from more than 330 local unions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. No opposition candidates received enough votes to meet the Teamsters’ constitutionally required threshold to challenge the O’Brien-Zuckerman team.
“This victory belongs to rank-and-file Teamsters. When we were sworn into office four years ago, our leadership team committed to building a bigger, faster, stronger union, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ve organized more than 100,000 new members, won historic agreements including a record contract for 340,000 members at UPS, and put rank-and-file members back in the driver’s seat. The Teamsters is now the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth,” O’Brien said. “Over the next five years, we have a lot of work ahead of us. The Teamsters face big fights at UPS and Amazon, and we are prepared to tackle those head on with the militancy and organization that has defined our administration. We will keep growing and never stop working for the members.”
“The Teamsters are stronger, more secure, and more prepared to take on greedy employers than at any point in our 123-year history. We have more than $1 billion in total assets, and our Strike and Defense Fund stands at approximately $365 million, providing the ammunition to take on the boss and protect our members,” Zuckerman said. “The Teamsters have accomplished so much to expand our ranks, exert real political influence, and safeguard our members in an ever-evolving economy. But we’re just getting started. The future is bright and the state of the union is strong in the Teamsters.”
O’Brien is a fourth-generation Teamster from Local 25 in Charlestown, Mass. Zuckerman joined the Teamsters more than four decades ago as a rank-and-file member in Houston and later went on to lead Local 89 in Louisville, Ky. Together, they bring an aggressive grassroots approach to taking on employers and prioritizing member involvement in the union.
Over the next five years, O’Brien and Zuckerman have pledged to continue the fight at UPS and Amazon, strengthen Teamsters density in core industries, defend and improve contracts across every division of the union, and build even bigger bipartisan coalitions to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act and other legislation to benefit working people.
The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate will take the oath of office in March 2027.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien presented his report to delegates of the Teamsters 31st International Convention in Las Vegas.
O’Brien highlighted the remarkable strides the union has taken over the last five years. These accomplishments include organizing 100,000 new workers, securing passage of high priority legislation at all levels of government, and waging 350 strikes against the worst employers in North America.
“Over the last four years, Teamsters across North America reminded the world exactly who we are. We organized at unprecedented rates. We mobilized in every corner of the continent. We negotiated strong contracts across all industries. We took on greedy employers and held corrupt politicians accountable. And we struck more than 350 times,” O’Brien said. “Together, we rebuilt the Teamsters into the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth. We’re bigger. We’re faster. We’re stronger. The Teamsters are back, baby, so buckle up!”
Silence can help us most to recognize the voice of God, since it fosters attention and recollection. Freed from the noise of a thousand voices, we come to recognize that some voices deceive our desires, others buy us without nourishing us, and still others speak out of self-interest. In silence, we understand that ideologies pass away, while truth remains. https://t.co/lbaMqHx1cJ
I'm in Portland, ME for a Fighting Oligarchy rally with @grahamformaine and @TroyJackson207.
The time for status quo politics is over. The time for REAL change and leaders who will deliver is NOW. https://t.co/g5RVOFubh3
Our story isn't new, it's now just being highlighted. The Delivery Protection Act has given us the space to speak the truth about what Amazon wants to hide behind the boxes we deliver. We WILL speak up and make sure that Amazon is held responsible for the bad van conditions, lack of job security and unfair working loads. We're going to change the way Amazon operates so it operates better for workers! #AmazonTeamsters

In the richest city in the richest country in the history of the world, nobody should be going hungry.
That's why we're opening five city-owned grocery stores, one in each borough, starting with The Bronx.
Lower Prices. Good food. Publicly owned.

BLET TEAMSTERS & UNION COALITION WIN HISTORIC STRIKE AT LIRR
Teamsters with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (@BLET) and their union coalition have reached a tentative agreement with Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to end the carrier’s first strike in over three decades. The agreement provides workers with raises that maintain their standard of living while strengthening work rules and improving benefits.
“BLET Teamsters and their brothers and sisters across four other unions just showed this entire country what worker solidarity looks like in action,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “These union railroaders made it clear from the start they would not accept a deal that shortchanged them and undercut their standard of living. For three long days they bravely withheld their labor on picket lines across the New York metropolitan area. Every worker in America is reminded of what can be achieved through courage and conviction to fight for a better way of life.”
Thousands of workers from five unions were forced to strike by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) refusal to offer them a fair contract. BLET Teamsters and their coalition partners set up picket lines at major LIRR hubs immediately after midnight on Saturday, May 16.
“This victory was won by union members who stood their ground and refused to be pushed around,” said Mark Wallace, President of the BLET and the Teamsters Rail Conference. “Our coalition showed the MTA that railroad workers will fight for the respect, pay, and protections we’ve earned. Their unity and determination forced this railroad to finally deliver a fair agreement.”
The coalition spent years bargaining with the MTA for a new agreement. The process included two Presidential Emergency Boards that ruled in favor of the unions. In that time, workers went without raises as inflation ate away their standard of living.
The LIRR is the busiest commuter railroad in America, with 300,000 daily passengers. The Teamsters represent over 500 of the LIRR’s locomotive engineers.
Rail Teamsters from the @BLET and their union coalition remain on strike at the MTA-owned Long Island Rail Road.
After more than three years with no raises, LIRR’s union workers, including 500 Teamsters locomotive engineers, will not make any more sacrifices to cover for the MTA’s mismanagement.
It's time to give our members the fair deal they deserve.
A triumphant accomplishment and a demonstration of what we can accomplish together.
Thank you @GovKathyHochul, @AndreaSCousins, and @CarlHeastieNY for rising to the moment and to the visionary leadership of @NYCMayor who never gave up on a city that works for all New Yorkers.
Peace begins in the human heart, passes through relationships, takes root in neighborhoods and peripheries, and expands until it embraces the entire city and the world. Peace is built by promoting a culture that rejects violence, through daily gestures, education, and practical acts of justice. #PastoralVisit #Naples
On average today, it takes 458 days to secure a first union contract. This is a problem that we can solve right now.
The Faster Labor Contracts Act establishes a reliable first contract bargaining timeframe. Teamsters and workers across the country are done waiting for corporate-backed politicians to hold Big Business accountable.
Tell your member of Congress to “sign the discharge petition” and bring the Faster Labor Contracts Act to a vote: https://t.co/Vyx2dPTwc6
#Peace is not something we must invent: it is something we must embrace by accepting our neighbor as a brother or sister. We do not choose our brothers and sisters: we must simply accept one another! We are one family, inhabiting the same home: this wonderful planet that ancient cultures have cared for over millennia. #ApostolicJourney #Cameroon
Eliot was a wonderful colleague and friend — dedicated to the people of the Bronx and always willing to lend an ear. We worked together closely on promoting the Northern Ireland peace process and he was a true friend to the Irish American community.
AMAZON TEAMSTERS BECOME FIRST UNION TO WIN BARGAINING ORDER AGAINST E-COMMERCE GIANT
In a historic decision, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that Amazon illegally refused to recognize the Staten Island-based Amazon Labor Union-International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1 (ALU-IBT 1) and ordered it to begin negotiations with the Teamsters.
Over 5,000 warehouse workers at the JFK8 facility in Staten Island formed their union on April 1, 2022. In June 2024, they officially affiliated with the Teamsters Union, which officially chartered ALU-IBT Local 1. Over the past four years, NLRB has repeatedly found that Amazon has illegally and willfully ignored the union’s legitimacy while attempting to coerce JFK8 Teamsters into ending their organizing efforts.
"Four years ago, Amazon workers at JFK8 won an NLRB election. Now, on this monumental anniversary, they have become the first group ever to force the company to recognize their union, and they did so as Teamsters,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “This fight is far from over but this ruling from the NLRB is an historic victory for Amazon Teamsters nationwide and a testament to worker power.”
MAJOR UPDATE!
Amazon Teamsters have FORCED Amazon to respect our right to strike! In a groundbreaking agreement between the Teamsters and Amazon, the company agrees it will no longer threaten our Unpaid Time (UPT) when we go on strike AND restore the UPT they deducted from workers who engaged in striking the company during our nationwide action in December 2024.
The agreement covers every single Amazon facility in the country!
WHEN TEAMSTERS FIGHT, TEAMSTERS WIN! 🐴✊
New York was built by workers and immigrants who came here to build a better life.
We remember the 146 lives lost in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, and what their loss forced this country to confront.
Safer workplaces, fair wages, basic protections. None of it was given. It was won.
Honoring them means continuing that work every day.
More than 25 workers at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits in Lakeland, Fla., have overwhelmingly voted to join Teamsters Local 79. The sanitation, inventory control, salvage, and day yard trailer jockeys organized for increased wages, improved benefits, and job protections.
These workers join their 270 warehouse colleagues at the Lakeland facility who joined Local 79 in December 2024 and ratified their first collective bargaining agreement in July 2025.
“We saw what the folks in the warehouse were able to gain through Teamsters representation and wanted that for ourselves,” Curtis McCoy, a steward at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. “Joining the Teamsters gives us the power to fight for better wages and a better life for our families.”
When nurses fight for safe staffing and better conditions, they are fighting for every patient who walks through those hospital doors.
Proud to stand with @NYSNA nurses who are showing us all what courage and solidarity look like.
We haven’t seen a storm like this in a decade. Some parts of the city could see up to 28in. Please, stay inside if you can and if you see someone on the street in need of assistance, call 311.
