Some days cricket just forgets its own hierarchy. At sano, Japan, a 5over exhibition thrown together to mark 75 years of India Japan diplomacy and a teenager who sometimes commutes hours by train just to find a proper net session ends up restricting the reigning T20 World Champions out for 32 runs.

Charlie Hara-Hinze opened the bowling and had Abhishek Sharma back in pavilion for a golden duck. India slid to 14 for 3 insidw 3 overs and by the time final over came around, he was the one trusted to bowl it again, taking out captain Shreyas Iyer, one of the finest players of spin,right when India needed him most.

None of this happened by luck. This is a boy who trains out of Northern Suburbs in Brisbane because Japan barely has real turf to offer him, who spent 4 years completely cut off from his own Japanese family during COVID, unable to even visit and who found his way back to them only through this sport.
He once bowled an U17 side out for just 7 runs, taking 6 wickets for 4(7 batters dismissed for duck). He had already got the better of India's own Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at Under19 level 2 years before this.

Now he is sitting on 49 T20I wickets with economy of 5.02, average of 12.87, numbers that don't really belong to a teenager from a cricketing nation ranked 41st in the world. He is just 1 wicket away from 50 T20I wickets & he is still not old enough to vote in most countries.

Japan built this on artificial Flicx pitches laid over baseball outfields, on diaspora kids finding their way home through cricket instead of away from it. Hara-Hinze just gave that whole project its proof at Sano, against the best T20I team on earth.
