Suspected low sulphur status following wet summer and better GSR , corresponding with lighter, low organic matter soil class. Historical creek bed clearly evident.
@venningj@jacksonmdavis 23rd of March = 66mm
No rain for April
3rd of May = 10mm
Crop sown couple days after Easter. Sown to shallow for the drying conditions.
@NoTillBill Burnt only days ahead of the seeder. Any longer and you get the drying effect from the loss of stubble you spoke about. Burnt area had higher summer weed pressure, hence way it was burnt, allowing tradficabilty of the seeder.
Weeds in photo have only just emerged.
@Blake_Smith19@Tedthekelpie Yes Blake, similar saying by the old boys around here. I Am only guessing, the heat of the fire would cause an osmotic gradient, drawing the moisture up? Any soil scientist want to weigh in?
