I minted 𝙲𝙾𝚁𝚁𝚄𝙿𝚃𝙴𝙳 in 2024 and since then, I'd been patiently waiting for my second @PERFECTL00P piece, maybe not SO patiently since @CozomoMedici has been been sharing their work and it's been hard to not have some FOMO. On the 27th, they posted a piece and I squealed!

Bruce Nauman, Self-Portrait as a Fountain, 1966-67
Tongue-in-cheek, semiotic & viscerally suggestive riff on the Artist as a wellspring of prolific creativity, referencing as well Duchamp's own deadpan take on the matter
In 1979, artist Sophie Calle met a man at a party. When she learned he was traveling to Venice, she secretly followed him there, photographing his movements and documenting his routine without his knowledge. The result became Suite Vénitienne, an extremely influential work of conceptual art.

Notes from AiR VII
Halfway through the residency term w/ @0xVestica@ivonatau@desultor
In the last few weeks, we had our first special guest @ronentanchum
He shared about his journey from film visual effects, to freelance client work, and now full-time artist creating large-scale interactive installations, collaborating with AI, creating art and meaning out of complex systems
We touched on the the different art worlds he occupies, from projects with Art Blocks and in web3, to his fortuitious relationship with the World Economic Forum and projects at Davos
__
Of note here was a discussion about the fine line between an immersive, interactive “attraction” and an immersive, interactive “artwork”
The difference between art and entertainment, art and spectacle - an interesting nuance, when art can also employ those concepts to great effect, but still transcend them, do more than simply entertain or “wow”
Should all art have “something to say”? Does it suffice to (merely?) induce feeling?
And how might this be related to what motivates an artist to create an artwork in the first place?
Thank you for joining us @ronentanchum!

The artists are also starting to incubate their final collections, which will be revealed and offered in September
In addition to developing coherent, cohesive concepts, we are navigating how to use this residency opportunity to work on something different or new, or to explore a medium or subject that has been of interest but not yet fully embraced
As always, it is a question too of taking creative risks vs. creating for a specific audience in mind - not necessarily always mutually exclusive, but often potentially at odds
In the next half of the term, we will do regular workshops to refine the collections
And we will focus on a few larger themes, including: market strategy and pricing, collector interaction, professional collateral and strategies for sharing art practices in multiple ways, and to different audiences (an expansion of the messaging theme we have already covered)…

Notes from AOTM AiR VII
Learning how to meaningfully convey complex ideas succinctly is useful in art and in life
__
We have finished initial “studio visits”
thoughtful and in-depth presentations of the artists' practices either using decks, or more informally sharing screens and walking us through folders of source images to final artworks
__
Artists working digitally -
especially those working on long-form, narrative-driven projects whose meaning is particularly enhanced by the viewer’s understanding of the artist’s (often nonlinear, complex, and multi-media) -
arrive at a particular challenge:
how to meaningfully explain your art practice in a distilled way?
(What is your “pitch”?)
__
This week our focus is refining / paring down messaging when it comes to artistic practice
Each of the artists will contribute their own brief 1-2 sentence description of each other’s practices (I will too)
We will review these together and see what kind of useful insights are gleaned
