The silence from conservation organisations on this, the "neutrality" and "impartiality" of DEI and places that are supposedly decolonising nature....shameful. And disheartening. This is a nature problem, and it is visceral, graphic colonisation happening in real time.

i will always refuse to pay journals money to access science out of principal but i would absolutely donate money to scihub or another paper-distributer that values the free access to knowledge over taking advantage of researchers for profit

sometimes my phd is rough because of the way homophobic scientists talk about animals being animals but sometimes its fun because i get to discover that people put research effort into proving that female stumptail macaques are capable of orgasm

@GoWildForBees i've also recently found a paper about a species of insect with male vaginas/female penises
the cricket genitalia is always fun- also that females mount but the best part is the booty bumpin which is not a universal behaviour across cricket species and only occurs between males

(Also calling animals gay or straight doesn't allow us to accurately study animals because of the biases and assumptions associated with sexuality and identity)

I'm making a fuss about non human animals not being straight or gay not bc I think we shouldn't study gay behaviour in animals, but bc I want to make people question more deeply what their gender, sexuality, expression, identity and behaviour means, and where that comes from.
