"When I decided to become a surgeon, there were many who tried to convince me otherwise and others who tried to create obstacles to hinder my training and development. I began to doubt whether, as an Indian American woman, I truly belonged in this field.” (1/3)

“Gun control works on gun violence as surely as antibiotics do on bacterial infections,” Adam Gopnik wrote, in 2012. “The more guns there are in a country, the more gun murders and massacres of children there will be.” https://t.co/H3ZmFxN2vW
On this International Transgender Day of Visibility, I am honored for the opportunity to perform gender affirmation surgery for our patients so they can live as they choose.

#PaulFarmer was an icon in blending the fields of anthropology and medicine. After taking his class at #Harvard I was inspired to pursue my thesis in medical anthropology.
Partners In Health announced that its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, unexpectedly passed away today in his sleep while in Rwanda.
Dr. Farmer was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife, Didi Bertrand Farmer, and their three children.
