My therapist told me: A lot of our explosive emotional reactions aren't actually a response to the present moment. They're a buildup of all the times we were in a similar dynamic and did not stand up for ourselves, use our voice, or express our emotions.
Self sabotage can feel utterly humiliating-- but you need to know you're not making a "choice." Your nervous system is trying, desperately, to manage anxiety, fear, or deeper trauma reflexes.
It's not that you don't have your sh*t together, truly. It's about not feeling safe.
Intense self-blame is super common among CPTSD survivors-- & the ways we are conditioned to blame & shame ourselves may have zero to do w/ reality or logic.
We will absolutely bludgeon ourselves w/ standards we would never in a million years apply to another human being.
Your brain has a finite amount of daily energy (RAM). When you live with unresolved trauma, your brain uses roughly 80% of that energy running background programs, scanning rooms for danger, decoding micro-expressions, suppressing old emotional flashbacks
Dating a neurodivergent person means understanding that emotional safety matters. You can’t constantly create confusion, break trust, and then expect their nervous system to respond like nothing happened.
THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON C-PTSD;
- Sometimes I wish I was deäd
- I just want to be alone most of the time
- I can't sleep!
- I feel spacey, like can't think straight
- I have constant nightmares
- I feel depressed
- Most of the time I feel like I am in pain
- Most of the time I feel worthless
- I can't concentrate
- I feel angry that I was put in this position!
- I can't handle the simplest task
- I feel like l'm a doormat most of the time
- I feel like I always have to be vigilant.
- Ready to take on another attack!
Emotional neglect is abuse.
Dismissing feelings, minimizing pain,
or pretending nothing happened
teaches a person that their inner world doesn’t matter.
It leaves wounds that are invisible
but no less damaging.
Autistic women often need partners who understand that “little things” are not little to their nervous systems.
• harsh tone
• broken promises
• financial instability
• last minute changes
• emotional inconsistency
• passive aggression
• raised voices
• unclear communication
That stuff builds up in their bodies like static electricity.

Trauma survivors rarely say “I’m struggling.”
They say:
“I’m just tired.”
“I’ve got a lot on.”
“It’s been a weird week.”
They don’t ask for help.
They downplay everything.
Because life taught us that being honest makes people disappear.
You can't heal them. Sorry.
But what you can do is work to become the most honest, compassionate, realistic version of yourself-- that is, the most recovered version of yourself-- so when they're ready to heal, you'll be be a clear eyed support for them.
My “Roman Empire is the realization that my life is a lottery win. Somewhere in Sudan, Pålestine, iran, Afghanistan, Iraq or Congo, there is a boy smarter than me. He is more disciplined, more resilient, and holds more potential in his single finger than I do in my entire career.
The only difference? I am siting in a train and he is sting in the rubble of his dreams.
My "bad days" are his wildest dreams.
My "burnout" is a luxury he can't afford because his only job is staying alive.
It's geographical luck and it's a haunting injustice that we all refuse to acknowledge and look away
