Bella had been returned to Kansas City shelter three times in six months. Each family said she was "too clingy" and "needed too much attention." When volunteer coordinator Janet sat with her, she began to understand why. "Bella had learned that when people stand up, they leave and don't come back," Janet explained. "So when I started to get up, she panicked." "Every goodbye had taught her that love doesn't last." Janet adopted Bella that day, determined to show her that some people stay. "Clinginess is just love that's afraid to be left behind," Janet reflected.

These puppies were rescued from a life destined for the animal trade. They will never become puppy-making machines, as their mother once was.

We also managed to have their mother spayed, putting an end to the cycle. Their puppies will be spayed/neutered at the appropriate age and will never know what it means to spend their lives giving birth to litter after litter for profit.

There are already far too many dogs desperately waiting for families. We simply cannot support a system that breeds more animals for profit while so many are still waiting to be adopted.

Socialism destroys wealth before it even builds it, because it severs the link between effort and reward at the root.

Consider the Soviet collective farms. When the Bolsheviks forced peasants onto kolkhozy after 1929, grain output collapsed almost immediately. Why would a farmer work sixteen-hour days when the state claims the harvest? He wouldn't. He didn't. Soviet agricultural output remained so depressed that the USSR imported American grain through the 1970s and 1980s, paying in hard currency its own system couldn't generate. The incentive to produce disappears the moment production stops belonging to the producer.

You see this everywhere socialism touches. Venezuela's Chávez nationalized over 1,200 private companies between 1999 and 2012. Output in those sectors didn't rise; it cratered. PDVSA, the state oil company, produced 3.2 million barrels per day in 1998. By 2020 it produced under 400,000. Managers stopped caring because the profit signal, the one mechanism that communicates what people actually want, got switched off.

The incentive problem is only half the indictment. The other half is the destruction of choice.

When the British National Health Service controls your healthcare, you don't negotiate price, quality, or timing. You wait. In August 2026, NHS England carries a waiting list of roughly 7.5 million people. You get what the committee decided you deserve, when they get around to it. A market lets you trade your own resources for the care you value most. A bureaucrat's judgment replaces yours, permanently.

Central planners cannot possess the dispersed, local, constantly changing knowledge that prices carry automatically. Destroying price signals evaporates wealth.

Arab and Muslim citizens of Israel are part of the country’s political system, judiciary, military, and broader society. Equating Israel with apartheid-era South Africa ignores the significant differences between the two and risks minimizing the experiences of those who actually endured apartheid.

A man was driving when a mother moose and her calves suddenly blocked the road. Every time he tried to go around them, the mother stepped in front of his car again.

Realizing she might need help, he stopped and followed her.

She led him to another calf trapped in the water, with its leg stuck between heavy rocks. The man carefully tried to free it, but the rocks were too difficult to move alone, so he called some friends for help.

Working together, they finally managed to release the calf without hurting its leg.

Instead of immediately running away, the little moose stood there for a moment, looking at the people who had helped it. Then it slowly followed its mother and disappeared.

A few days later, the man got an unexpected surprise when the moose family appeared near his home.

Whether they remembered him or simply wandered back into the area, seeing the family safe and together again was something he wouldn’t forget.
