GP and CEO Inclusion Healthcare Social Enterprise: Special Interests primary care, homelessness & vulnerable groups, substance misuse & social enterprise.
It’s been mental health awareness week so today I’ve spent time with Leicester GPs, nurses and staff working with the homeless, asylum seekers and those suffering with drink or drug addiction.
This has been a tough year for many in Leicester. Mental health is a priority for me.
"We lose 10 people a day to drug related deaths"
"The home office is pursuing policies that create these problems"
"The UK's failure to address drug related deaths is in sharp contrast to almost every other developed nation in Europe" Lord Falconer #MDAP2020#addiction
#SCIP2019
Inspirational! Gov Gabrielle Lee, HMP Low Newton. Creating Safer Enabling Environments for women in custody to do “normal things”. Loosing the Latin/portcullis logo, relabelling to “colleagues & residents” soft uniforms, all contribute to incredible culture change!
“Prison, punishment and sanctions will not help someone develop resilience, emotional competence, process trauma and break the cycle ...”#SCIP2019 surely we can do better together?
Great potential to realise the value of Patient engagement and co-production as we design and launch Primary Care Networks to deliver the #LongTermPlan#WHFEvents@HealthwatchE @NHSLeicester
Great to speak about the role of patient experience and co-production in delivering the #LongTermPlan in @HealthierLSC @ Westminster Health Forum & to hear from Sir Robert Francis from @HealthwatchE#whfevents
Thank you Ruth Passman at #WHFEvents identifying the need for patient engagement and tailored responses to the NHS Long Term Plan to make sure vulnerable groups don’t get left behind.
Live in Action today, Jamie from Turning Point, leading today’s session ‘ dignity and respect’: in relation to substance misuse and how to maintain dignity & respect when out and about in the public domain.
Thank you @NHSLeicester LCCCG staff and other passers for helping my Niece, knocked of her bike this morning on London Rd. Really grateful that there were good people around to help her. @RideLeicester
Day2 at RCGP Health&Justice Summit with #SEGROUP#HolmeHouseRecovery challenging the way we think about recovery.... “when a flower doesn’t bloom you fix the environment in which it grows” Alexander den heijer
Just leaving Brighton after another inspirational Board meeting @arch_healthcare last night. Some of the most Compassionate & creative minds in the #nhs serving homeless people. Brilliant! Feeling energised for my day @InclusionHealth - Thankyou
Inspirational poetry and reflections from medical students. @LLRLMC AGM tonight. Absolutely Incredible, fabulous to hear young doctors impatient to start their careers in GP!
Inspirational visit to @Trade_S_Health this afternoon. Exploring opportunities for partnership working and “Point of Care” testing in primary care. Leicester has 7th highest late diagnosis rates for HIV in UK! We need to work together urgently to make testing more accessible.
#rcgpac#RCGPAC18@Voa1234 reminds us that the NHS was established to serve the needs of poor people - people who couldn't afford to see doctors under a private system
Just arriving at #Expo18NHS Excited to use my 6 minutes at the podium to challenge the nhs@70 to break the cycles of adverse childhood experiences, that contribute to adult homelessness and vulnerability.
too many people live lives drifting from street to prison and back again, generating chronic health harms. Substance mis-use a depressing part of the mix. More joined-up NHS services could help break these cycles. https://t.co/XN9wXJxl5M
Stan used to be homeless. Today he leads a team of formerly homeless 'Experts by Experience' at Pathway, and will be speaking at @HouseofCommons today with @NHSDigital #NHS70. We are incredibly proud of him!
Evidence that us marathoners have a potentially dangerous hobby and weird pathologies...but overall we’re still good for public health! Thank goodness for that! https://t.co/3Kf9Fr244m
