I’m planning on NZD’s Women on the Margins, Ginzburg’s Cheese and the Worms, etc and I’m interested in locating articles that demonstrate this strategy of writing history in rich and engaging ways, for an undergraduate course!
#Twitterstorians, I’m currently course planning and I’m on the hunt for microhistories that highlight European encounters, connections, or interactions with the wider early modern world, especially articles. I would love to hear about some of your favorites!
I know all the talk recently is about men’s obsession with the Roman Empire but have you tried asking the women in your life how often they think about Anne Boleyn?
It’s publication day for my book ‘Cleaning Up Renaissance Italy: environmental ideals and urban practice in Genoa and Venice’ @OUPHistory . Can’t believe that it’s on my desk/out in the world!
@barrytorch14 Congratulations Dr. Torch!!! 🤩 I hope that your defense was a wonderful conversation and celebration of all the hard work and enthusiasm you’ve put into this dissertation project!
@pilgrimchick@MiriERubin Use the online document request form so you can request docs the evening before and they’re more likely to be delivered in the morning when you want to get to work. And deciphering premodern writing is slow-going, especially on the first trip… go slow and take espresso breaks!
@pilgrimchick@MiriERubin My most recent trip to the ASV was in 2019, pre-Covid, so some procedures may have changed significantly since, but I’d advise making use of Boerio’s Venetian dialect dictionary + other reference texts available in the sala di studio, ask archivists and fellow scholars for help…
@barrytorch14 I edited like crazy between my defense and final submission… and promptly located multiple typos again after having a copy specially bound 🤦🏻♀️ I try to think of those typos as a residue of the beautiful, hard, messy work that went into crafting the final product ❤️
