Grateful to speak about the homelessness crisis with @AnnabelleRadio of @BBCRB today.
As a Trustee of Somewhere to Go, Weston-super-mare's homelessness charity, we spoke about the UK Government's own statistics on homelessness, out today, showing a full-blown crisis in action:
๐ด A record 145,800 children now homeless in England - 19,460 more than last year, a 15% rise
๐ด 112,660 households living in temporary accommodation at the end of 2023
๐ด 317,430 households (a record high) assessed as homeless or at risk of homelessness by local authorities in 2023
Charities like ours can only attempt to manage the crisis. We can't hope to fix it without a clear strategy from government.
We desperately need UK ministers to focus on what can and will end homelessness.
