The 8th WGID meeting concluded, noting that most planned tasks have been successfully implemented thanks to members’ commitment.
The members will discussed strategies to engage policy organs for stronger political follow-up, and the next steps in shaping future priorities.
During its 9th seating, the Working Group on #ChildrenWithDisabilities of the ACERWC deliberated on its achievements and priority areas further to carry forward. The need to adopt an African disability perspective, broader definition of children with disabilities.

The ACERWC delegation led by the Chairperson Hon. Wilson Almeida Adão, had the opportunity to meet with H.E. Dr Ergoge Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of #Ethiopia🇪🇹 to take stoke about Ethiopia’s progress on the implementation of the Charter and to discuss about mechanisms to work together.
The ACERWC outlined some of the avenues for working together including the submission of the second periodic report by the State, undertaking follow-up visit to monitor the implementation of the previous recommendations, and the hosting of its activities by Ethiopia.
H.E. the Minister highlighted Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to implement the Charter and the concluding observations and recommendations of the ACERWC. She highlighted the progress achieved as a result of the recommendations of the ACERWC in areas of policy reform and systems strengthening, the strides made in reducing violence against children, FGM, and Child Marriage as well as notable programs such as school feeding programs and the Destitute Program which have benefited over 500,000 children.
H.E. Dr Ergoge Tesfaye expressed the readiness of Ethiopia to submit its periodic report and receive the Delegation of the ACERWC for a follow-up visit in 2025 highlighting the importance of such avenues for sharing Ethiopia’s best practices and learning from the experience of other Countries.
Dr. Ergoge Tesfaye further conveyed Ethiopia’s willingness to host the Day of the African Child #DAC2025 and the Session of the ACERWC.

ACERWC and @AfrikParliament to cooperate in advancing child rights in Africa:
The two bodies met in Maseru to discuss a three-year cooperation plan, that will guide their joint actions to promote and protect children's rights. PAP delegation led by: Hon. Mahamoudou Saad, Chairperson of the Committee on Health, Labor, and Social Development (PAP), was welcomed by Hon. Anne Musiwa, Rapporteur of the ACERWC.
This initiative marks a significant step in advancing children's rights in Africa. The collaboration between the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) aims to enhance efforts to address the challenges related to children's rights and well-being on the continent.
During the meeting, they reviewed their of respective mandates to clarified their roles and responsibilities to better complement each other. An analysis of the situation of children's rights in Africa, as well as an assessment of progress made and identification of gaps.
The cooperation plan is to make PAP parliamentarians ambassadors to advocate for children's rights, strengthen synergies between legislative structures and specialized mechanisms and increase the visibility and effectiveness of initiatives for children's rights.
This joint effort is a promising step towards improving the institutional framework and strengthening policies focused on children's well-being in Africa.
