How much do you know about New Religious Movements (NRMs) or 'cults' as they used to be called? How should Christians engage with them?

Before you sign up for Direct Cremation as something that makes life easier for your family please ask the provider some crucial questions. Where will you be taken when you die? How long will you be left? Are your family ok with no access to you? Where will the cremation be?…
Many of you have followed the news around 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘘𝘶𝘪𝘦𝘵 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 report over the past year. Today, we want to share some disappointing news.
YouGov has informed us that the 2024 survey sample our report was based on was faulty. While this error does not mean all the findings were wrong, it does mean we can't stand behind them on the basis of this survey alone.
We’re deeply disappointed that YouGov has only recently identified this issue, especially after repeated assurances about the data’s reliability. We know many of you may feel discouraged too. YouGov has taken full responsibility and issued an apology.

'Because these wings are no longer wings to fly
But merely vans to beat the air
The air which is now thoroughly small and dry
Smaller and dryer than the will
Teach us to care and not to care
Teach us to sit still.'
— T. S. Eliot, Ash Wednesday
Exclusive:
There's a rise in people asking the Church of England's help to "deliver them from evil"
But how often does this require an exorcism? And are they like the horror movie image?
@TheTimes lifts the veil on the sensitive world of real exorcists:

Handy guide from St Albans Abbey. I must admit I didn’t know what this stood for and have only ever seen it on Twitter (and once at a theological college)
I keep this on my desktop: “Words are innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across the incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they’re no good anymore.
“I don’t think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little or make a poem which children will speak for you when you’re dead.”
Tom Stoppard
'The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
[...]
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.'
100 years of T S Eliot's 'The Hollow Men'
Published #OnThisDay in 1925
This paper - which is really technical but is in my view exhilarating to at least read through (if not fully understand to say the least!) if you have an interest in quantum gravity / black holes / holography etc etc, contains what is surely one of the great footnotes. ‘We leave the theological implications of this statement as an exercise for the reader’. https://t.co/VrX7bsbeIz
This is Charlie Gee

His work in performing restoration works on Cathedrals throughout Europe is some of the best
A skill set that is becoming rarer to find and master in a more modern world

It is great to see Douglas Davies from @durham_uni @Durham_Theology honoured for his important work. Durham professor honoured for pioneering contributions to death studies - Durham University https://t.co/e1MqaegdVe
'How Does God Act in the World?' is out now!
In this book, David Wilkinson argues that the biblical picture of a God who acts in the world makes sense in the light of modern science -- but that how God acts cannot be reduced to simple models.

I have a long read out today on reports of Christian revival. I spoke to statisticians and researchers alongside clergy and lay people about what they are seeing on the ground, and looked at why young men might be drawn to the faith https://t.co/L33DYKckWZ

You can cover your steps. You can write about them. Others have followed in your footsteps and found revelation. But what if there is also a trail of deceit to follow?
Penniless and homeless, Raynor and Moth Winn found fame with The Salt Path: the story of their 630-mile walk to salvation. It became a global bestseller and was adapted into a major film.
But we can reveal it wasn’t the whole truth.
