We vehemently condemn the sentencing of musician Shervin Hajipour to 3.8 years in prison in Iran for his courageous expression of artistic freedom. The anthem he created for the "Woman Life Freedom,” entitled “Baraye” (For the Sake of), stands as a testament to the resilience and determination of those advocating for women's rights and freedoms.

This blatant violation of Shervin's rights to free speech and expression is a grave injustice and a clear affront to human rights principles. His imprisonment serves as a chilling reminder of the ongoing repression faced by artists, activists, and dissenting voices in Iran.

We call upon the Iranian authorities to immediately vacate the sentence, cease the persecution of Shervin Hajipour, and uphold their international obligations to protect freedom of speech and expression. The persecution of individuals like Shervin must end, and those responsible for such violations must be held accountable.
