@cryptochamomile They are counting the water used to grow the grass that feeds the cows, and transport/process the meat, for 1 year (and even then i don't believe it). It's not the water supplied to one store. One 9000 person town with multiple restaurants has that annual water usage.

@AndyMasley Nonpoint source polluters like agr. need to be regulated, but increased acute toxicity from concentrating the pollutants is also a thing. Even if the water didn't have nitrates, the TDS (which is toxic to aquatic life in high conc) produced by DCs would also be a concern.
