‼️ The European Commission has allowed a citizens' initiative demanding EU law keep digital ID and age verification voluntary, privacy-preserving and non-discriminatory for accessing online services.

The initiative called 'Stop Killing The Internet: No Digital ID & No Age Verification' now needs 1 million signatures across at least 7 member states within 12 months. Once the target is hit, Brussels must formally answer, right as it rolls out the EU Digital Identity Wallet and pilots its age-verification app.

The @WHO released updated guidelines on reducing the risk of cognitive decline and #dementia, providing countries with evidence-based recommendations to help prevent or delay the onset of dementia across the life course.

Dementia is a condition caused by #brain diseases and affects memory, thinking and the ability to function. More than 57 million people live with dementia worldwide and nearly 10 million people get newly diagnosed every year. #Alzheimer disease is the most common form of dementia and is estimated to account for 60–70% of cases.

While there is no cure for dementia, up to 45% of the risks can be attributed to modifiable risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol use, social isolation, physical inactivity, air pollution and noncommunicable diseases #NCDs, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Beyond health, dementia affects a person’s independence, dignity and safety.

"We know more today than ever before about what drives dementia risk, and these guidelines translate that knowledge into action," said @DrTedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. "Countries now have clear, evidence-based recommendations they can put into practice immediately to protect people's cognitive health."

WHO’s new guidelines reflect the latest evidence and innovations in dementia risk reduction providing proven interventions that can effectively lower dementia risk through early awareness and timely action. They represent an important opportunity to reduce the burden of dementia in the coming decades through stronger integration of services for noncommunicable diseases, mental health and brain health.

It's called Privacy Guides.

This is the website Google would rather you not find, Meta actively lobbies against, data brokers have tried to discredit for years, and the entire advertising industry treats as a direct threat to their business model.

It has been online since 2019. It takes no affiliate money. It runs no ads. Journalists cite it. Security researchers trust it.

Here's how it works.

Privacy Guides is a curated recommendation list. The site itself sells nothing.

It just tells you which private tool actually replaces every surveillance product in your life, tested by security researchers and updated every month, organized into 40+ categories with the exact reason each pick was chosen.

→ Email providers that cannot read your messages
→ Search engines that do not build a profile on you
→ Password managers you can self-host

Proton VPN just shared that it received 47 legal orders through June this year, all seeking to identify users behind specific server IPs and timestamps. Every one was denied, because its no-logs policy leaves no connection data to hand over.

Per its transparency report, updated July 14, that brings the total since 2019 to 458 orders, with zero fulfilled. The company keeps no connection logs under Swiss law, so there is nothing to produce even when an order is binding.
