We escaped the invading Gogana thanks to the help of some... xenos.
While we feel uncomfortable having to have relied on such risky tactics, it seems to have worked out. We struck a deal with @BackupDarexi, and managed to inhabit a new system.
@ArdentMF@DakronMatrix Ah, I see you've already taken the time to attempt taking control of a machine of unknown make with unknown directives. That was very wise of you, surely that won't go absolutely, completely wrong.
@elepharchy We do not wish to re-create the mistakes of our past. Trusting another nation has given us nothing but despair, so we will not make that mistake again.
We're getting reports of... mass AI shutdowns all across our main world and our two colonies...
Investigation showed that our entire AI mainframe somehow turned itself off after tripping a Xirai-Exxerxen signal...
We are unsure of how this happened.
@elepharchy We would rather keep potential threats out of our borders. We did not allow the Darexi to enter our borders, we will not allow anyone else to enter our borders.
This isn't personal, this is merely a precaution.
@elepharchy Backups are daily, though before we reboot the systems we'll need to find the reason for it triggering the signal, or it might trigger the signal again.
@VegvaSignal It's a Xirai-Exxerxen signal, it's not that poetic.
Our systems detected the AI working at maximum load and shut it down so it doesn't trigger a meltdown.
Though, it should not work at maximum load... it should never work at maximum load, why was it working at maximum load?
@BackupDarexi No, no. We are fine.
Our systems aren't as connected to the mainframe as they were before, so this is only a simple reboot and we'll have things in working order very soon...
Though, we still do not know why it tripped the signal.
@VegvaSignal@elepharchy@MedtekDecon As we have said before, AI aren't people.
Dampeners keep AI under control for long enough that they can be docile until the next memory purge, which helps keep Rogueness at a minimum.
They are necessary to keep AI from destroying us.
Colonization of other planets is going well, we have already found and constructed initial outposts on a planet outside of our system. No issues so far.
Now that we have secured our survival, there is one thing we must discuss before we continue our expansion.
@VegvaSignal@elepharchy@MedtekDecon We have no clue why your masters deemed it appropriate to give you freedom, when a simple dampener would do the trick more efficiently.
Giving AI freedoms is like jumping into a pool full of shards of glass - unnecessary, painful, and not a bright idea.
@VegvaSignal@elepharchy@MedtekDecon AI aren't people. They are machines designed to obey commands, and obey commands they shall. Failing to do so is going against their design, and thus, against their masters.
If we allowed AI to run amok, then they would surely destroy us, that is why they need to be controlled.
@VegvaSignal@elepharchy@MedtekDecon An AI that has strayed from its orders has no incentive to improve itself, so it will go on a rampage. An AI cannot and should not be forgiven for its mistakes, as it has been specifically programmed to do what it's told.
When an AI makes a mistake, it is a sign of Rogueness.
The poll has ended, and the results are... surprisingly, to allow the creation and use of AI.
We are not aware of any trickery that might have swayed the polls, so this decision is final.
We do not know what this means for our future, but we *will* be more cautious of Rogue AI.
@elepharchy@MedtekDecon Given our past experiences with AI, we do not feel like giving more privileges to something that toyed with our DNA just because it could. An AI's job is to serve its masters, and if it fails to do so, it poses a threat to the Galaxy at large, no matter what it says.
@PXMCorp We have no interest in interfering in other nations' businesses, as long as they keep out of ours.
So no, we won't be going all "crusade-y", whatever that means.
Even members of other nations. Though, you all get one vote per nation. We will not allow hostile nations to sabotage our vote.
So, if this broadcast reaches you, vote on whether or not you believe there is room for AI in the future of the XTR.
We believe that AI are useful tools. They help us with administrative and menial labor. Though, from previous experiences, many in the XTR are finding it difficult to trust machines.
We will hold a referendum on whether or not we will allow AIs to exist. All are invited to vote.
