@thatCoffman It really is sad. I had a large account where I’d interact and it made me a target. On this anonymous one I get dragged into so many conversations where my real life experience is shouted down by someone whose career highlight is a third place finish in a scam contest.

You're an aspiring writer and trying to make it? Here's my advice. Write scripts. Then write more. Don't argue that the industry is unfairly tilted against you because you're a member of X group. Look at the members of that group who are killing it and figure out how they did it.

@StLKirk @NILES100 I'd go further - I don't think people who fall in love with Big Band music *now* listen to the stuff from the 1950s and beyond. I'm a fan of R&B, and 99% of the stuff I listen to is before I was born, not stuff from my teen years. Rock is sadly not as exciting as it was.

@PhoenixBlackNow @AtlCane09 Men pursue screenwriting in larger numbers than women, so they end up with more jobs. What "stats" aren't on my side? "Barbie" was the *highest grossing movie* of 2023. The writer didn't get an Oscar nom? Populist comedies usually don't. Who cares? What point does that prove?

@PhoenixBlackNow @AtlCane09 Some of the most in demand and powerful writers/producer in TV and film are women. I'm not saying it's *half*, but saying that women's voices can't break through because the industry is trained to only respond to white men is just... demonstrably not true.

@AtlCane09 @PhoenixBlackNow I'm not playing dumb - why is that skewed against bipoc writers? I get why it might be a class issue, but why is it a racial issue? A black writer with well off parents can afford entry level jobs better than a poor one. Same with all groups.

@PhoenixBlackNow @AtlCane09 16 women have won screenwriting Oscars - far fewer than men, but it's not that women's writing isn't accepted or celebrated. And that's ignoring all the movies by women writers that don't win Oscars. Or TV shows created by women, including some of the biggest hits.

@PhoenixBlackNow @TheAcademy 100%. Going into a highly competitive field where you won't make money for years, if ever, is a lot easier if your parents are rich. But that's not bias against race or gender or sexuality.
