For all those who are peddling wrong facts about this exercise.
When there's a law to uplift and safe guard Street vendors, govt can't contradict the policies to please some elite pricks.
Without proper plan for shifting and integration the way @GBA_office is conducting this is a disgrace.
@krishnabgowda could've done better.
One more rule of law tweet to defend the illegal, unconstitutional and inhuman eviction of street vendors. Here's the law my friend. (1) The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, enacted by Parliament.

I think KBG wanted to shift the focus from potholes, bad roads, bad infra to footpaths before GBA elections. DK has not done enough when he was the Bengaluru Develmnt minister so they're using the tears of street vendors and hawkers to win decent seats!!
I want them to lose 5/5!
The footpath issue in BLR has brought out the worst prejudices of seemingly well meaning people.
A basic understanding of rules tells you that footpaths (of course not entirely) are legitimate vending zones.
Now who hasn't done their duty in designating the zones? Care to ask?
It seems to counter BJP's Hindutva, KBG is impementing Yogi's UP-JCB model in Bengaluru. And it’s believed he called Rahul Gandhi and said, "Stop the drama of meeting and talking to street vendors, boatmen, mechanics, etc., and follow my path." He said, "The more feudal we become, the more cronies we help, we can create congress’s version of Hindutva and come to power." (FHUS - From highly unreliable sources..)
Hello @RahulGandhi your party has no moral right to criticise the fascist JCB Politics of Ajay Bisht &gang.
Your highly 'cultured' 'educated' minister KGB is doing the same
Next time pls dont come to Bengaluru seeking votes saying you stand with street vendors, gig workers etc
The State, while acting for the elite, wants the poor to fight the poor, wants pedestrians and street vendors to blame each other, so that no one asks why our cities are planned with such contempt for both. The Constitution recognises the rights of street vendors and pedestrians.
Deep down, most Indians are bullies.
They love to punch down.
The glee with which so many Bengalureans are celebrating the eviction of street vendors from Bengaluru footpaths is just another example of this.
Street vendors make our streets safer, more vibrant, and more livable. Across the world, good urban design recognizes them as an essential part of public spaces.
The real encroachment on our streets comes from private vehicles occupying public land. Yet, instead of addressing that, the Karnataka government is targeting street vendors.
There is enough urban design evidence showing that integrating vendors into street planning creates more inclusive, safer, and people friendly cities.
Clearing footpaths for the use of pedestrians is a great move. These people have grabbed every inch of footpath across Bengaluru causing daily accidents and huge inconvenience to pedestrians. They have turned city into a garbage dump. A huge racket involving police and GBA officials, in some cases in connivance with local MLAs is collecting “rent” running into several crores every month from them. A commendable job by GBA minister @krishnabgowda . It does not help him politically, but he is doing it to make Bengaluru liveable and beautiful again. Hope he succeeds.
🚶 BENGALURU'S FOOTPATHS ARE GETTING THEIR SPACE BACK
From July 1–10, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is running a 'Safe Footpath Campaign' across 1,000 km of road network — clearing encroachments from footpaths in all five city corporations.
📊 WHY THIS MATTERS
30% of every 1,000 road accident deaths in Bengaluru are pedestrians. The Supreme Court has been clear: walking on a footpath safely is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
🚫 WHAT'S BEING CLEARED
➡Illegal parking on footpaths (vehicles will be towed)
➡Name boards, chairs, tables, and kiosks blocking pedestrian paths
➡Vendors and shops spilling onto walkways
✅ HOW IT'S BEING DONE
➡Notices will be issued before any action — not a sudden crackdown
➡Action will follow the Street Vendors' Protection Act and SC guidelines
➡Municipal officers, police, and clearance teams will coordinate
➡Damaged slabs and kerbs will be repaired alongside clearance
It follows the #1KmChallenge encouraging people to walk short distances instead of driving — Bengaluru is trying to become more walkable, one footpath at a time.
🗣️ WE NEED YOUR EYES ON THE GROUND
Let's make Bengaluru's footpaths walkable again — together.

Hello @CPBlr , what @comm_blr_south has done here is theft of street vendors carts under instructions of @krishnabgowda. Who gave them power to take carts away ? Were these even on the pavement or were they on the road ?
ಬಡವರ ಅನ್ನ ಕದಿಯೋ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳೋದು ?
Hello @acorn@dp_satish and fellow bengaloreans, listen to this lady.
There are many street vendors who are aged and who can't do other work, many single women
Usable pavements and street vendor rights are not mutually exclusive.
Stop cheer leading an exclusionary exercise.
