विगत 16 जून 2026 को जनपद चमोली के कर्णप्रयाग में सिख श्रद्धालु एवं स्थानीय व्यक्तियों के मध्य विवाद के पश्चात मारपीट की घटना हुई। इस मामले में सिख श्रद्धालुओं के विरुद्ध थाना कर्णप्रयाग में अभियोग पंजीकृत हुआ था।

घटना में घायल सिख श्रद्धालु के पिता की शिकायत पर उनके साथ कथित मारपीट करने वाले अज्ञात व्यक्तियों के विरुद्ध 20 जून 2026 को थाना कर्णप्रयाग में एफआईआर दर्ज की गई है।

उक्त प्रकरण में आईजी गढ़वाल रेंज श्री राजीव स्वरूप की संस्तुति के आधार पर पुलिस मुख्यालय स्तर पर महत्वपूर्ण निर्णय लिए गए हैं।

थाना कर्णप्रयाग में पंजीकृत उपरोक्त दोनों अभियोगों की निष्पक्ष,पारदर्शी एवं स्वतंत्र विवेचना सुनिश्चित करने के उद्देश्य से विवेचनाएं चमोली जनपद से हरिद्वार जनपद को स्थानांतरित की गई है। वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक, हरिद्वार श्री नवनीत सिंह भुल्लर के पर्यवेक्षण में विवेचनाएं सम्पादित की जाएंगी।

इसके अतिरिक्त विभिन्न सिख संगठनों द्वारा सिख श्रद्धालुओं के साथ स्थानीय पुलिस के कथित आचरण एवं व्यवहार के आरोपों की जांच डीआईजी श्री यशवंत सिंह के सुपुर्द करते हुए उन्हें दो सप्ताह में आख्या प्रस्तुत करने के लिए निर्देशित किया गया है।

आईजी ने कहा कि उत्तराखण्ड पुलिस सभी समुदायों की धार्मिक भावनाओं का पूर्ण सम्मान करती है तथा प्रत्येक प्रकरण में कानून के अनुरूप निष्पक्ष, पारदर्शी एवं न्यायसंगत कार्रवाई के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। उन्होंने कहा कि हेमकुंट साहिब यात्रा श्रद्धालुओं की आस्था से जुड़ी अत्यंत पवित्र यात्रा है, जो उत्तराखण्ड पुलिस एवं प्रशासन के समन्वित प्रयासों से सुरक्षित, शांतिपूर्ण एवं सुव्यवस्थित रूप से संचालित हो रही है। यात्रा के दौरान प्रत्येक श्रद्धालु की सुरक्षा, सम्मान एवं सुविधा सुनिश्चित करना पुलिस की सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता है।

NSG Commando Surjan Singh Bhandari: The Warrior Who Fought Death for 600 Days

NSG Commando Surjan Singh Bhandari displayed extraordinary courage during the terrorist attack on Akshardham Temple in Gujarat and continued fighting for his life for nearly 600 days before making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

A native of Rano village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, Surjan Singh Bhandari was serving with the National Security Guard (NSG) on deputation from the Garhwal Scouts. On 24 September 2002, when terrorists attacked the Akshardham Temple in Gujarat, he was among the elite commandos deployed as part of Operation Vajra Shakti to rescue innocent civilians and neutralize the attackers.

During a close-range firefight with the terrorists, Bhandari was struck by a bullet in the head. The bullet became lodged in his brain stem, leaving him critically injured. Despite his condition, the NSG operation successfully eliminated both terrorists and saved hundreds of innocent lives.

Following the attack, he was admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where doctors performed multiple surgeries. Later, at his family’s request, he was shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi for advanced treatment. He remained on ventilator support and in a coma for nearly 600 days, battling between life and death.

Recognizing his exceptional bravery, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee awarded him the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, while he was still in a coma. The honor was formally conferred by President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

His sacrifice drew national attention. Then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi reportedly ensured extensive medical support for his treatment. Senior leaders, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Sushma Swaraj, also visited him during his prolonged struggle.

After fighting courageously for almost two years, Surjan Singh Bhandari passed away on 19 May 2004 at AIIMS Delhi, with the Indian tricolor placed beside him. He was only about 25 years old. Even today, his story remains an enduring symbol of courage, duty, and sacrifice for the NSG, the Indian Armed Forces, and the nation.

Surjan Singh Bhandari did not fall on the battlefield that day. He continued his battle for 600 days, refusing to give up until he had given everything in service of India. His sacrifice will forever be remembered as one of the most remarkable examples of devotion to duty and love for the nation.

दिल्ली के मालवीय नगर अग्निकांड में उत्तराखंड के शेफ केशव नेगी की गिरफ्तारी कई गंभीर सवाल खड़े करती है।
केशव दिल्ली में अपने परिवार का पालन-पोषण करने के लिए नौकरी कर रहे थे और उनका काम रसोई में खाना बनाना था, न कि भवन की वैधता, फायर एनओसी (NOC) या सुरक्षा मानकों की जांच करना। यदि भवन में अवैध निर्माण, सुरक्षा नियमों की अनदेखी और प्रशासनिक लापरवाही हुई है, तो इसकी जवाबदेही वास्तविक जिम्मेदार लोगों की तय होनी चाहिए।

एक कर्मचारी को बलि का बकरा बनाकर पूरे मामले की जिम्मेदारी उस पर डालना न्यायसंगत नहीं कहा जा सकता। यह भी जांच का विषय है कि रिहायशी क्षेत्र में व्यावसायिक गतिविधियां किस अनुमति से संचालित हो रही थीं और नियमों का पालन क्यों नहीं हुआ।

21 निर्दोष लोगों की मौत के इस दुखद मामले में निष्पक्ष और व्यापक जांच आवश्यक है। उत्तराखंड सरकार, सांसदों और जनप्रतिनिधियों को इस मामले का संज्ञान लेकर केशव नेगी को उचित कानूनी सहायता उपलब्ध कराने की पहल करनी चाहिए। न्याय का सिद्धांत यही कहता है कि जिम्मेदारी उसी की तय हो जो वास्तव में जिम्मेदार हो, और जांच सबसे कमजोर नहीं बल्कि असली दोषियों तक पहुंचे।

In so much as I love the Indian Army and its history, there is nothing irreplaceable. And the State bows infront of no-one.

The Army could raise an All India, All class Regiment tomorrow and in due-course, make up for the Sikh Regiment.

BTW, I'm pretty sure, this dearth of recruitment is for the Sikh Regiment, and not the Sikh Light Infantry (which recruits Majhabi Sikhs or 'lower caste' Sikhs).

How big the recruirtment base of the Sikh Regiment (which recruits only Jatt Sikhs) in the first place?
