We've been playing a bit with your idea of forming a range in the first 30 minutes of a trading session, then trading the breakout.

NY session is good, but we like the London session too. So what we did was form the range between 2 and 2.30, then observe the next hour or two for a break.

See example from today. Backtesting shows this is good for a 70% win rate if trading BTC. I know your example was on SPX, but finding some consistency on the ol' orange coin too.
