With a recent @Reuters report detailing an alarming number of Sikhs in the United States and Canada targeted with threats and harassment by the Indian state and its agents over the last year, India’s inappropriate appointment of Vinay Kwatra as the Ambassador of India to the US must be reviewed and investigated by US authorities.

In April 2023, Kwatra was the sole signatory of a classified official government memo from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, in which the Indian state instructed its consulates in North America to launch a “sophisticated crackdown scheme” against Sikh diaspora organizations in Western countries and listed several Sikh activists including Sikh Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, as well as Sikh activist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).

In the months following Kwatra signing this memo, the Indian state and its agents assassinated Sikh Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar and attempted to assassinate Sikh US citizen and SFJ General Counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
