"An oasis in the deep sea" Heartening coral restoration project co-led by @AntoGrehan2 & team from @uniofgalway - although it's sad we let it get to this state in the first place

Great news 💚
Researchers seeking to restore deep-sea coral habitats damaged by bottom trawling by installing 3D-printed artificial reefs said they have been colonised by a range of marine species.
A team from the University of Galway are part of an international group testing the feasibility of restoring deep-sea coral habitats damaged by bottom trawling.
Twenty-three artificial reefs have been placed on the deep seabed off the south-west Porcupine Bank, off the west coast of Ireland, and in the Bay of Biscay, France.
It is part of a contribution to the Horizon Europe project Redress, which focuses on restoring deep-sea ecosystems and rebuilding marine biodiversity across European seas.
