I'm logging in to X after 3 years. I was following science & tech accounts as well as anti-crypto accounts. All I'm seeing in my feed are onlyfans girls, crypto and justin bieber. WTF happened?
@davidtolnay This fork of your library already looked shady when I forked it a year ago. I even mentioned it in my README in the "Why" section. https://t.co/BDhBPnIFje
Holly crap! I'm logging in to Twitter after ~1 year, because github is down, but the status page says "everything is okay", and you can't search logged out on twitter any more.
My time-line is filled with spam and political crap from people I don't even follow. WTF is happening?!
@JamiesonBecker This is why Github went down the drain...
A few years ago https://t.co/f7NSWDHDfz was reporting metrics. Now it's updated by a humans, and humans take hours to update this page. So you're seeing weird behaviours on Github but https://t.co/f7NSWDHDfz says "everything is fine!"
@mutinda_felix_@github No. Github is having major issue... https://t.co/gYS0meFUdV
Every time I want to access twitter once in a blue moon, it's fucked...
@yannsionneau @bortzmeyer Yup. I prefer buying a good computer every ~7+ years than a crappy one every other year.
Which is what Jancovici says: better renew server hardware often and client hardware seldom. (To save energy significantly, if we ignore manufacturing+shipping)
@babsliness @Scott_Mashburn @GretaThunberg Scott is most likely talking about https://t.co/naWcSclqyS
Cobalt is used in every lithium ion battery, which is found in cars, and also in the phones that Scott and I are using to access twitter. Scott is making a "what about" argument. Which brings nothing to the debate.
@ScottSzcz@TelepresenceLen@BrooklynBubbler@GretaThunberg Thats not the case in many EU countries. Some put it in the cardboard container, in my country it is recommended to put it in the "packaging container" (along with detergent bottles, milk cartons)
Overall, it rarely goes in the "everything-else-trash".

@dunglas@bortzmeyer @NFaureTrudel @joinmastodon@signalapp@Wikipedia J'avais tord.
@sniff86793391@PatrickEBoyle @AkiretaHK While we need to stop using petroleum products ASAP for environmental and non-environmental reasons. There are legitimate reasons why governments don't "just do it". And it has to do with how much living standards would negatively be impacted by such a radical change.
@sniff86793391@PatrickEBoyle @AkiretaHK You're just supporting Patrick's point, right? These oil-free items are expensive because they dont rely on free, finite and dense energy which accumulated in the ground for millions of years. It looks like these ppl don't understand half of the repercussions of "just stop oil".
