This would be the closest forward base to Taiwan for US troops — and proof the US pivot to the South China Sea is accelerating fast.
Philippine and American military officers surveyed Manila’s newest base in the Luzon Strait. They looked at options for joint defense operations between the two allies in the country’s northern territories near Taiwan.
The Mahatao Forward Operating Base on Batan Island in Batanes opened in August 2025. It sits roughly 120 miles south of Taiwan’s southern tip.
This puts it right in that critical chokepoint between the South China Sea and the Pacific.
The base already has helipads, a small dock, boat launch, and space for logistics plus potential missile storage.
Philippine forces run maritime awareness and defense missions from there. The recent joint survey now shows it is being prepared for much deeper US-Philippine cooperation under EDCA.
This setup gives the US a real forward launching pad. In any Taiwan contingency, American forces could rotate in fast for surveillance, quick response, resupply, or support operations. It would be much closer than the other northern Luzon sites.
Contrary to some analysts claiming US disengagement from the region, the opposite is happening.
And it is moving very fast.
Now that the Iran situation might stabilise, the US is making sure the EU takes over the Ukraine project.
This keeps Russian troops pinned down in Europe. Washington simply doesn’t want Russia free to help China as deterrence in the South China Sea.
And the Philippines is getting more and more US military aid to back this up.
This includes billions in funding, facility upgrades, prepositioned equipment, and advanced systems in joint exercises.
Strategic spot.
Growing partnership.
Batanes is turning into a serious node in the Indo-Pacific picture.
The shift is real.
And things are moving fast up north.
Sabi ng Loyalists, the Duterte bloc is destabilizing the admin.
With what? 18 marines?
Against?
- BNs in budget allocations?
- Bangag’s CF in the BNs?
- OMB, NBI, PNP?
- Congress? Senate majority?
You don’t need the whole govt fighting you back when all you have are basureros
Demonstration request the removal of US forces stationed to attack China.
This is on the Philippines' Independence Day - guess who they gained independence from?
The US - they were literally an outright colony of the US.
The US instituted concentration camps and systematic torture - this according to the US State Department's OWN archives (in post 2/2).
Inis na inis ang mga kakampink sa post ko na ito, even spreading rumors na na-dismiss daw ako as a university instructor at PDF file daw ako. 😂
Fact is, I never renewed because being a university instructor doesn’t pay much. My professor who hired me, the president of the Philippine Political Science Association, and who wanted me to teach because he saw my potential back in undergrad, can attest to that.
And mas bet ko ang mga daddy.
HAHAHAHA.
Uulitin ko. AS A DDS, SUSUPORTAHAN KO LAHAT NG MGA PULITIKO NA AYAW NG MGA KAKAMPINK. 🖕
Pax Silica: America’s Silicon Leash on the Philippines — Eternal Vassal State 2.0
Pax Silica isn’t partnership. It’s straight-up colonialism with better marketing. US-driven “secure” supply chains mean Philippine land handed over on long-term leases where only the USA has jurisdiction.
Extraterritorial enclaves. US common law zones. Diplomatic immunity for their ops.
Philippine sovereignty?
Sold for scraps.
As I detailed in my full breakdown of the leverage collar:
https://t.co/tufBaw3rrl
Thousands of acres in New Clark City carved out for US-led semiconductors, AI, and critical minerals. Filipino nickel, copper, cobalt ripped from the ground to feed America’s tech supremacy while locals get stuck with low-value assembly, pollution, and zero control over the profits or IP.
EDCA bases expanding, US missiles on Philippine soil, nuclear pacts, energy deals — the full vassal package.
The Philippines isn’t climbing any ladder.
It’s becoming America’s forward base and minerals quarry in the silicon war on China.
This is the same old script.
Marcos Jr. following daddy’s footsteps: US wealth frozen as leverage, now repaid with full-spectrum surrender. 99-year zones, US jurisdiction on sovereign soil, turning the country into the next Ukraine proxy against its biggest trading partner.
My full analysis on how the US engineered the perpetual vassal state:
https://t.co/d5ZM2B4VOX
Celebrating “independence” while hosting occupation troops and signing away jurisdiction? Pure slave mentality.

Pax Silica sells “stability and innovation.”
Reality: dependency, resource drain, higher war risk, and the total erosion of real sovereignty. Filipinos deserve development on their own terms — not as Washington’s disposable silicon colony.
Time to break the chain.
Real independence or permanent vassal?
The choice is clear.

The full WinRi ship context: They are both single. They both like dogs. They are both in the same Senate bloc. They both cancelled the same flood control investigation. They both stayed quiet about the $5 billion Marcos case dismissal. The romance and the complicity have identical timelines. The ship and the governance failure launched on exactly the same week. 🤭
yes, dds helped vote bbm into power in 2022. that part is already admitted, regretted, and politically paid for. but politics does not stop at the ballot box. the question now is who is resisting bbm today and who is protecting him today.
u don't get moral immunity just bcs u were right in 2022. being right before does not excuse being useless now. if kakampink senators and thought leaders are now enabling bbm, shielding him, or redirecting all pressure toward sara and the duterte bloc, then the ball is in ur court.
dds made the 2022 mistake. many already owned it. now kakampinks need to answer for the present. why are ur senators helping bbm's line? why are ur thought leaders giving him cover? why are u demanding street action from dds while excusing the ppl in ur own camp who actually have power, platforms, and institutional leverage?
past blame cannot erase present duty. dds are not disqualified from opposing bbm just bcs they once supported him. kakampinks are not absolved from enabling bbm just bcs they once warned abt him.

The Philippines faces an existential threat.
No, not "Chinese expansionism in the South CHINA Sea," but the fact the Philippines is LITERALLY OCCUPIED by US troops who are forcing the country to divert national resources from development to proxy war - into turning the Philippines into the "Ukraine" of Southeast Asia against China, the Philippines' largest trading partner.
If the people of the Philippines do not reverse US occupation and oust the US client regime in power now - they will suffer a fate at least as bad as Ukraine.
They are already suffering decades-spanning poverty because of their status as a proxy serving US interests at the expense of the Philippines' actual interests.

This is one the Philippines' Independence Day - guess who they gained independence from?
The US - they were literally an outright colony of the US - when they first fought for independence against US occupation and control, the US instituted concentration camps and systematic torture - this according to the US State Department's OWN account:
"The war was brutal on both sides. U.S. forces at times burned villages, implemented civilian reconcentration policies, and employed torture on suspected guerrillas..."

US troops in the Philippines aren't "defending" anything > they're turning a sovereign nation into the next Ukraine proxy against its #1 trading partner, China.
History repeats: America colonized the PH, used concentration camps & torture (per their own State Dept records), then never really left.
On Independence Day, Filipinos are right to chant "US troops out now."
Prioritize development over endless US-driven militarization, or watch poverty & destruction deepen.
Real independence means choosing your own path, not Washington's.
🇵🇭 Сегодня Республика #Филиппины отмечает День Независимости!
12 июня народ Филиппин празднует освобождение от длившегося сотни лет испанского колониального господства.

It’s now out in the open. Three major media companies, ABS-CBN, GMA, and TV5, are partnering with PTV-4. This raises a pervasive issue: that this arrangement will compromise their editorial independence and lead them to echo the government’s narrative rather than maintain a critical distance.
🇵🇭 Today the Republic of #Philippines celebrates #IndependenceDay!
On June 12, the people of the Philippines cherish liberation of their nation from the hundreds-years-long Spanish colonial yoke.
We congratulate our Filipino colleagues and friends on the National Day!
