I think every student who graduates with a First Class from any Nigerian university should have 100% of their school fees refunded, plus a ₦1 million excellence bonus.

I came across a similar incentive model in the Netherlands, and it made me think.

Imagine the message it would send: Hard work pays. Excellence is rewarded.

Instead of only celebrating academic success with certificates, why not attach real value to it?

It could fundamentally change how many students approach their education.

The increasing use of federal institutions to disrupt governance in opposition states in Nigeria is condemnable. As I said in my last newsletter, no government is above scrutiny but when institutions like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are utilised to witch hunt specific states or public office holders, it indicates that their investigations are selective and erodes public trust in these institutions.

The “freezing” of an official state government account without due legal process goes beyond the powers vested in the EFCC by the laws of our land. And the timing of the action suggests that this is just another attempt by the federal government to unduly influence the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

Federal institutions must remain faithful to their constitutional mandate by acting with fairness, professionalism and political neutrality at all times. We therefore call on all Nigerians, civil society organisations and the international community to remain vigilant. Democracy cannot thrive where our institutions are perceived as instruments of political intimidation. Protecting the independence and credibility of our institutions is essential to preserving public trust and safeguarding Nigeria's democracy. The rule of law must prevail over the rule of politics.

Pro-Tinubu supporters wanted to intimidate Cardinal John Onaiyekan and cow him into silence until they discovered who he truly is.

They thought it was just another bishop from Ogbomoso or Nnewi who had randomly decided to tell President Tinubu the truth.

They had no idea they were dealing with a man whose voice carries weight far beyond Nigeria.

How do you even attempt to intimidate a man who became a priest at just 25 and a bishop at only 38?

One amongst the 5th Cardinals Nigeria has ever had?

Lol.

By the time they realized they were confronting an internationally respected cleric, it was already too late.

The attacks backfired big time because the message had already reached far beyond the audience they were trying to control.

Students from the South East are very intelligent. I learned that the hard way myself.

I still remember when my family transferred me from my school in Port Harcourt to a boarding school in Anambra State.

I got there and started looking down on the other students. In my little mind, I believed my IQ was higher than theirs because I felt I came from the city, while they lived in the village. That mindset made me very overconfident.

Because of that, I didn’t put in as much effort as I should have.

Back in my school in Port Harcourt, I usually finished around third position in my class, so I was sure I would do well again.

Then the end-of-term results came out.

I checked my report sheet and saw 31st out of 46 students. My eyes first blur! 🤣

I was like, “Huh?!”

I got home and received the scolding of my life.

The next term, I put in much more effort and moved up to 13th position. 😭

I never saw 3rd position again until I graduated from that school.

I can boldly say that, from my experience, students from the South East are exceptionally intelligent and hardworking. Igbo people have one of the fastest IQs in the world.

In summary: Excellence can be found anywhere!
