World leaders still can’t comprehend the speed of Ukraine’s battlefield revolution.
One man behind so much of that is Mykhailo Fedorov.
A title can be taken away. His mission has not.
Whatever the system throws his way, he has zero intention of stopping
Interview tonight 🔥
I swear to you, I put off writing this post until the very last moment, but there's no point staying silent anymore.
In the battle between common sense, a young tech-minded reformer, a Moscow-trained Soviet-style lieutenant, a former cop, and a president who 'can't' dismiss a pro-Russian general who can't even speak Ukrainian, the winners were the Moscow lieutenant, the former cop, and the president.
Until the very end, I hoped common sense would prevail. Like most of the country, I genuinely felt hope when Fedorov came in. An incredible number of changes, innovative approaches, a technological leap, and a rapid shift in Ukraine's favor thanks to all of that.
Alongside the Moscow lieutenant, the real winners were also the damned draft enforcers within his system who have been terrorizing society for years, often simply making money from abducted and intimidated people. Every Ukrainian knows that mobilization very often affects those who can't buy their way out or don't have connections to escape the draft office. Those are the people who are first in line to be sent into assault units.
What's especially interesting is that President Zelensky says one of the reasons for dismissing Fedorov was the 'failed reform of the draft offices.' But damn it, he didn't even have time to present that reform. How can he be blamed for the draft offices when they don't report to him—they report to the Moscow lieutenant? As far as we can tell from public sources, Fedorov even proposed dismissing the Moscow lieutenant, but the president didn't support him. Who is this story supposed to convince? Who is expected to believe it?
So who's actually responsible for people continuing to be beaten, killed, maimed, tortured, and treated like garbage in the streets? Right, I forgot—forgive me. In our country, mobilization is like a 'hot potato' that no one wants to touch because they'd have to take responsibility. But Fedorov did take it on, started making changes, and simply wasn't allowed to finish. Or am I misunderstanding something, Mr. President?
Then I read this:
> 'The president said that Fedorov and the ministry were purchasing equipment based on their own judgment rather than according to requests from the General Staff and the military. This included, for example, the procurement of artillery shells.'
This is utter nonsense in a war where drones dominate, where one drone usually means one precise strike, and someone is complaining about having fewer artillery shells that often require firing ten rounds to achieve the same result. What the hell is going on in their heads? What kind of ridiculous excuse is that?
Mr. President, your approval ratings—the ones you care so much about—rose significantly after Fedorov became defense minister. Once those radical changes began, people were ready to forgive you for many mistakes and overlook a great deal.
And now, with your own hands, you're creating the opposition that will destroy your political reputation.
And who are you appointing as the new DEFENSE MINISTER? A police officer?
Someone who couldn't even fulfill his promise to let people defend themselves?
Finally, from Fedorov's own statement about his dismissal:
'Our ballistic missile. Symbolically, on the day the government was dismissed, we successfully tested a ballistic missile developed under the Ministry of Defense's area of responsibility.'
I've never publicly supported figures involved in domestic politics because I didn't want to get dragged into political mud. That has always been my principle, but today I'll break it.
Mr.Fedorov, thank you for everything. You were the best defense minister.
Unfortunately, this is what happens when you fight the Soviet-style military establishment and those unwilling to give up the enormous profits from defense procurement. And when some people fear competition more than their own shadow.
To everyone else in public life, I wish you'd find the courage to say what you really think,in full color.
