Four of Coach OJ Favela’s former players were part of two college World Series teams playing for a championship today, and another is a pitcher with St. Mary’s in the NCAA regionals.
Derek and Denzel Montijo are with South Mountain Community College, which lost 4-3 in 11 innings against Pearl River (Fla.) in the NJCAA D2 World Series championship at Enid, Okla.
Brayan Espinoza and Thomas Teel are closing in on an NAIA World Series championship tonight with Tennessee Wesleyan. Their team is leading Taylor (Ind.) 11-3 in the sixth inning in the game at Lewiston, Idaho.
Luis Martin Romero is a pitcher with St. Mary’s, which upset top-seeded UCLA in Los Angeles yesterday and is playing Cal Poly tonight.
"As a staff and program, it's rewarding for our players to go out and have success and bring that winning attitude to their respective teams." -- legendary @ApacheBaseball1 coach @OJFav
