The Ram Temple, which was last looted by Babar in 1528, has been looted again after nearly 500 years, this time not by invaders, but by our own people.

We believed that independence and self-rule would ensure such tragedies would never recur. We were wrong.

The robbers this time did not come with swords or the backing of a Mughal army. They arrived with identity cards and the full support of a system we call our own. While Babar’s motivation was religious fanaticism, the driving force behind this betrayal was greed, lust, and corruption. These individuals, who had spent their lives as Ram bhakts, allowed their desires to override their conscience and chose shortcuts to personal gain.

This is not limited to Ayodhya. Across the country, massive looting occurs at religious sites, from shopkeepers and hotel owners around temples to the commercialisation of Temple tourism and VIP darshans. It reflects a deep societal decay.

We are building grand temples, universities, highways, airports, and industries, yet we are failing to build CHARACTER, the most essential foundation of any civilised society. Character-building is not even among our top priorities. Our education system focuses on distributing degrees rather than shaping individuals with strong moral fibre and national character.

The Bhagavad Gita (16.1-3) beautifully defines the qualities of a person of good character:

- Fearlessness
- Purity of heart
- Charity
- Self-control
- Truthfulness
- Non-violence
- Compassion
- Forgiveness
- Humility
- Freedom from anger
- Gentleness
- Steadiness
- Absence of greed

Similarly, the Manusmriti outlines ten key virtues of dharma:

- Patience
- Forgiveness
- Self-control
- Non-stealing
- Purity
- Control of the senses
- Wisdom
- Knowledge
- Truthfulness
- Absence of anger

We discarded this rich ancient wisdom and adopted a Western education model that has largely produced moral zombies, individuals capable of looting the very temple they once worshipped.

We may become a developed nation. We may even reclaim Kashi and Mathura. But what is the value of this progress if we lose our humanity in the process?

We still have time.

It is time to stop blindly chasing the West and turn inward. We must overhaul our education system, prioritise moral education, and place character-building at the centre of nation-building.

First, let us raise good human beings. Only then can we create a truly prosperous and civilised nation.

Yoga and Yogasana

People should understand the clear distinction between these two terms since they are not same. The physical exercises commonly performed on International Yoga Day are actually Yogasana, not Yoga itself.

Yoga is one of the most profound and important pillars of Hinduism, also known as Sanatana Dharma. The word “Yoga” literally means “union,” “addition,” or “to yoke.” It refers to the union of the individual soul (Atman) with the Supreme Soul (Paramātman or God), a state known as Moksha (liberation).

According to Hindu philosophy, attaining Moksha is the ultimate purpose of human life, and Yoga is the method to achieve it.
Hindu scriptures describe several paths to Moksha, including:
Bhakti Yoga (devotion)
Karma Yoga (selfless action)
Jnana Yoga (knowledge)
and others.

One of the most systematic and scientific methods among them is Ashtanga Yoga (the eight-limbed path). It consists of eight progressive steps. The third limb is Asana (Yogasana or physical postures), and the fourth is Praṇayama (breath control).

Therefore, what most people practice and refer to as “Yoga” on Yoga Day is not Yoga in the complete sense, but only the third and fourth limbs of Ashtanga Yoga, specifically Yogasana and Praṇayama
